ZZ PERFORMANCE MINI AFC AND A LARGER TB

ok,,,,,,,,,, this has been a long time coming, i have a 92 ssei and got a 95 sc for my car, the tb i got didnt work because of all the unmetered air flowing in because the 92-93 Tb is 58mm and the 94-95 tb is 70mm. here is the key to adding a larger TB to our cars, ZZ performance sells a link called a mini afc that allows you to calibrate the MAF from 10% -255% of the signal going to the pcm. it just goes in line with the MAF and the wireing to the MAF. takes like 5 secs to install. as soon as i did that and installed the 70mm TB, i got a smooth idle, and god what power now. i have it set at 128% . im still fine tuning it to get the best air/fuel ratio on the street and at the track. but for anyone that wants to go with a larger TB, this is a must. :D :2thumbup: :wow:

Excellent... (fingers tapping and an evil look coming over my face)

i posted a clearer pic of the mini afc and how simple it is to install

I still have the 94/95 "ported" TB Floz sold me in the garage. Maybe I'll give it another try. Did it affect MPG, and about how much power do you think you gained?

right now i have it set at 116% for everyday driving but at the track , i take it up to about 125-128% , depending on the humidity. really didnt notice any difference in milage, but then again, i dont worry about that part unless i have black smoke out the tail pipes. as far as power, before i put the 95 TB on and the mini afc, my TC would handle the spinning off the line all except a little chirp, now, i squeals the tires for about 4-5 ' with the TC on, im going to get the tires a little stickier next weekend if it doesnt rain.
ZZP has the mini afc for 99.99 plus shipping. they are great to deal with, and if you need any help as far as setting it up to start, just let me know.

I am assuming you have some sort of scan tool to view your O2's right? It is better to use that to adjust your Air-Fuel Ratio than it is to use an actual air-fuel guage because those aren't accurate at all at WOT, which is when it is important. You may have your AFC set WAY to rich. You will make the most power running as lean as you can without KR, but their is a point when you are running too lean which i think is O2's of .87. My dad has his Mini-AFC set at 88%, and he is still running rich.

yes i do use an OTC genisys to track my O2 readings. plus im running 24 lb injectors. with a stock MAF, if i set it at 100%, that is the stock setting for the MAF. i went to a larger TB so i had to show more air then the MAF can read because of the unmetered air. i race with a guy that has the zzp LS1 Tb converion and they use the LS1 MAF too, since it reads more air already then actually going into the motor, he has to set his mini afc to 91%. at 116% my plugs are looking great plus at WOT, i run an air/fuel ratio between 11.2-11.8:1 with a setting of 128%
also, the higher the O2 voltage, the richer it is. so when it gets about aprox.500 volts, it leans it out and below, it richens it up. my idle air/fuel ratio is 14.2-14.5:1.

I was just making sure, don't need fellow car enthusiast blowing things up. Yeah, I know about the LS1 throttle body conversions, my dad ordered one for his GTP but canceled the order at the last minute because of other minor mods that he figured out would be cheaper and make more difference after he went to the track. (Smaller Pulley, Fuel Pressure Guage so he can adjust fuel pressure, etc.) Those LS1 TB's are nice, but anyways, shouldn't air fuel ratio at idle be 14.7? On the 97+ 's 870mv is as lean as you want to go, and between 870 & 930 is a good range. Obviously this is much different on the pre 97's.

14.7 it what the pcm tries to keep it at. all O2 sensors show AC voltages. .500 is perfect , but it will never stay there.anything that is below .500 means its lean and the pcm richens it up, anything over, it means its rich and then the pcm leans it out.
i do this for a living but my bonneville is my first SC car i owned and modified.
