M62 Rebuilt by Magnuson
?
I am looking at a 93SSei that has a rebuilt supercharger and the current owner says that it was done by magnusun directly, but I want to make sure this is NOT the ebay supercharger that lacks the epoxy on the rotors...He mentioned he bought it for $500 and said it was online...and NOT from canadian supercharges.com so I am a little confused...Just making sure here before I make the guy an offer on the car...

I know some of the e-bay ones also have a coat of paint on them (usually silver). magnusun does offer rebuilds... http://www.magnusonproducts.com/reman/index.htm. Thw best thing you can do is to have the seller provide some sort of proof of where it was rebuilt, and drop us a couple pics if posible.

Magnuson rebuilt superchargers
Magnuson rebuilt superchargers are fine and are even recommended under a GM Service Bulletin when the owner, rather than warranty, is paying for the part. Magnuson is a (I think THE) factory authorized rebuilder for the superchargers. (The factory here is Garret, or whoever buids the supercharger for GM.) There'* a story behind my knowing this:
I have a '93 SSE with supercharger that needed replacement in 2004. The GM dealer quoted me over $2500 for the part alone. I finally located my favorite Service Manager who'd left when the dealership went bad and he told me that "any service manager who knew his __ from his __" would know about the GM SB that recommended Magnuson rebuilt superchargers in just this circumstance. I was able to locate the SB (but have since lost it - shouldn't be hard to relocate via a web search) and Magnuson. They are in Ventura, CA at (805)642-8833) and charged (June 2004) me $639.88 + $200 core deposit which was refunded when my core was received and usable. That'* an end-user price, not available to shops and is for a unit with possible slight cosmetic defects. For example, a different color cover than should be on it. But mine looked just fine. The units they sell to service stations are a few hundred more, but probably include a discount to the station that becomes profit.
Mine has performed well and I'd use Magnuson again, though I hope I don't have to!

Yeah, there a lots of people doing these rebuilds; but I agree with Will; you have to be careful since there are lots of bad businesses out there too. Holley is also in the business of remanufactured superchargers. They claim they dyno test them, serialize each one and keep a performance record.
