Tried out the nitrous...

I just went out and finished hooking everything back up that needed to be done and took the bonnie out for a test drive. When I got on it without nitrous, everything seemed fine and I had the same amount of acceleration as usual. But when i activated the 35 shot, I instantly got a LOT of pinging so I had to immediately back off. I could feel a slight power increase, but way too much pinging going on. After that, I tried again without nitrous and the car just felt really sluggish. I know it's running on all 6 cylinders, but it could be the timing was pulled? It's just really doggy now. So the battery is unplugged right now, so I can reset the computer and I'm going to go out and move the IAT sensor in the intake and try again for better results. I'm also running NGK TR6s gapped at .050"

Anyone have any ideas?

What kit are you using?
How many miles are on your injectors?

Change to the TR55's, make sure you're not spraying it all over your MAF sensor, make sure of all the connections being correct..

NX Universal EFI wet kit. Stock Injectors, can't say for sure about the MAF thing.. It doesn't have a screen, and I'm afraid to put it real close to the MAF sensor. Don't most manufacturer's recommend against that?
And I would also think about switching to cooler plugs rather than warmer ones, since I'm running a small pulley as well?

err...Unless I'm going crazy (which I probably am reguardless) TR55's are a step colder than the TR6's. In anycase you need to check on that MAF sensor. I've not see the NX setup and don't know the likelyhood of it hitting the MAF but spraying nitrous and gas all over the sensor is sure to lead to problems.

I just re-checked online to be sure, and the TR6s are colder than the TR55s. Zzperformance even sells TR8s.. 4 ranges colder than stock :) I'm thinking about switching to those to try and solve my pinging issues

I moved the nozzle right in front of the MAF so its not going everywhere now.. or it shouldnt be. But what about the applications where you can spray before or after the MAF? How are the pre-MAF setups designed? Or better yet, what does the ZEX kit look like so I have something to compare it to.

After moving the nozzle I went out for another test drive and without using it, it's still very very sluggish at WOT, which is confusing me still.. But when I hit the nitrous it feels more responsive, but still pings a lot so I can't stay on it.

Sorry for not clarifying in my reply earlier, they are stock injectors at 122k miles.

Well isn't that something, I could have sworn when Will came up here he had me switch to TR55's cause they were colder. He even called me a dummy for using the TR6's...Oooh I'll get him for that

I don't know what the Zex wet kit is setup like I had the dry kit. When I used it I put it in from the bottom-side so when it sprayed it wouldn't hit the MAF. I don't recall how Zex said to set it up or if it even mentioned the MAF but I didn't like the idea of spraying some below zero temperature gas across a heated element. I especially don't like the idea of adding gas into the mix.

Being sluggish at WOT is kinda strange. Even if the PCM was re-learning it would more likely just be a touch lean. Mmmm, wish you had a scantool that'd answer a lot of Q's. If you get bored for 10-15min you could pull your plugs and make sure you didn't melt one or something weird like that.

Yup he did, I'm looking at my TR55's now...damn hahaha welp good thing we had this little convo or I may have got another set.

From what ive heard and read, its better to put the nozzle about 6 inches from the throttle body, that way the nitrous has time to fully expand to a gas before it reaches your throttle body. I have the exact same kit so im pretty interested in how this all turns out.

No, at the time you had TOO cold of plugs. They were fouling. You had a stock pulley and ALOT of porting. That's why I suggested stepping back to the TR55's. I can run TR55's in the winter, but not in the summer.

You have the smaller pulley now, but with all your porting and rockers, I doubt you really need TR6's even now.

what should i be setting my gap at? Anyone with experience in this area have any idea what gap i should be running with the pulley and nitrous?
