Something COOL came along ;-)

I'm sure some of you recall I was working on some intercoolers, well the work has come to an end...here's the result;

http://ssei.whiteswebs.com/images/PW_Intercoolers.jpg

The grey semicircle you see is some JB Weld that fills in a channel for the PCV. It was a bit of a challenge but the PCV will be functional.

Can't wait to get it installed.

Cheers,

Beautiful job Foghorn. Are these going to be a production part?

Can't wait to see the differences in track results.

LakevilleSSEi 05-15-2005 09:13 PM

Awesome work....Hopefully they work out well for ya....I can see lots of potential with what you have here.

SSEi95 05-15-2005 09:14 PM

I'd be real interested on any info you have. Things like moving the alt bracket and adjusting fuel rail height to the injectors to name a couple. Good work!!! :P

Well, we'll see about that. I have other custom parts being made so once the car is all setup then maybe we'd consider doing parts to sell.

Cheers,

What's the avg cost for building and designing what you have here?

I have no idea of the average cost, I know the aluminum was about $150 CDN. So far it hasn't cost me a cent...you just have to have friends who own a machine shop

could this help n/a guys or is this a stupercharger thing?

It'a a supercharger thing. It won't bolt up to a N/A intake.

LakevilleSSEi 05-15-2005 10:00 PM

I don't think there'd be any real benefit in it for the N/A'd guys if it would bolt up....

BillBoost37 05-15-2005 10:08 PM

I hope no one feels oppressed on this. they look great...

Series 2 doesn't have to move the alt bracket like we do. But I'd be interested in the fuel rail solution as well, so I can wrap the Series 1 design up.

LakevilleSSEi 05-15-2005 11:14 PM

What would be the odds of finding a machine shop of some sorts for the fuel rails?

There are other options too. Like cutting the fuel rail and flaring in some extensions ro I believe one of the big 3800 stores (don't remember which) sells fuel injector extenders to go with thier IC.

Cutting and flaring the existing rail to add extensions would be a PITA, and problly never the the right lengths and seals..

willwren 05-15-2005 11:23 PM

My gut tells me a fuel injector extender would disrupt the spray pattern. I'd rather splice in extensions to the rail itself.

If the splices weren't done right, wouldn't that disrupt the spary also?

Do it right and then there won't be an issue.

The point I was getting at is that there's such a small margin for error. If the extenders could disrupt the patter, who knows how well the splice is gonna do, especially with the extra flare in there?

Umm... You guys are in entirely different books.

fuel injector extender == a tube for fuel to flow AFTER the injector, Very bad idea.
fuel rail extender == splices in the tubes BEFORE the injectors, which make no difference AFTER the injectors. Good idea.

LakevilleSSEi 05-15-2005 11:51 PM

Go figure....Now that I know that....it all makes sense...I'm done it here now.

LOL

Actually it isn't hard at all to flare lines. Only problem on the S1 is that the lines are two diff. sizes. (who cares)?

Fuel rails would not really work for a S1 (like I said before) - The problem is not the rail - it is the angle the injectors are at. If you look at a S2 they inject straight into the head. On a S1 they are at two diff. angles. This actually makes the top of the injector sit over the supercharger.
Only way you could get fuel rails to work is to create injector spacers letting you to change the injector angle. Only problem is that the factory injector geometry would be off which would/could lead to major problems.

Other then that they look great Foghorn (very ZZP gen 2 ish). So there are two in the picture, what is the other one going on?

willwren 05-16-2005 12:19 AM

I disagree on the fact that you didn't state the thickness of the intercooler ;) What you said may be true for a thick plate, but not for a thin one.

BonneMeMN 05-16-2005 01:13 AM

An N/A intercooler would KILL your flow, and smoothness.

Nice setup. Looks like a nice custom piece.

BillBoost37 05-16-2005 07:47 AM

No matter what, great idea and looks great as well.

Overcome the minor problems and start mass producing for the group. Some of us want all the power we can get.

Thanks for the props guys. The second one is going on a friend's 1999 GTP, check out his web site if you have a few seconds...lots of tips there!
