Default Nose Drive Seal

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago about my supercharger leaking. Anyway, I did some research and found that I could replace the nose seal without having to have a hydraulic press (The basic instructions can be found at http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...pic.php?t=9394 ).

Anyway, I pulled my SC off my engine today (Because I have the coupler issue as well). It had nearly no oil in it (Maybe a 1/4 a bottle at the MOST). I have pulled the nose drive off of the SC and I also have the pulley off as well, but I can't seem to get the metal washer behind it to come out. I've used a small screw driver and picked at it quite a bit. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

This is the nose ---- And the washer or ring I can't get off.

This isn't the seal I'm replacing is it? (Right behind the thing the coupler sits on)

I also noticed that their is oil in here.... Is this normal or is that bad?

I'd really appreciate ANY help I can get right now because my car which is in the garage is in pieces (And I really need it working soon).

To make myself clear from the first post. I pulled off the SC to replace the nose drive oil seal and the coupler. I have the nose off of the SC, and I've got the pulley off of the nose drive. I then pulled off the wire retainer and I cannot get off the aluminum ring that is below it.

I found where someone mentioned that they drilled some small holes and used sheet metal screws to pry it off. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...t=8332&start=9

If nobody mentions anything else, I'm going to have to go ahead and try this.

This is the seal I have. It is the Vitron seal that I purchased from rollingperformance.

This is the ring that I cannot get out. We tried drilling it slightly and then using a screwdriver to spin it on the shaft (Breaking it loose... It would come out easier if it were loose), but nothing has worked so far.

On the seal..hold tight.. I almost think it belongs over what you already see.. hang in though.

As for the amount of oil..yep..pretty normal

As for some oil in the lower intake..that'* fairly normal as well...when you are wide open on the throttle the oil is blowing around and some gets up the PCV and into the intake.. nothing to worrry about.

I've pulled a seal off by poking a hole in it with a small flat head screw driver, but it was the rubber type that you will be putting in. The drill method should work, BUT BE VERY CAREFUL TO ONLY DRILL VERY SHALLOW. There is 1 mm of material, than a small gap before you hit bearing. If you nick a ball, you screw the bearing.

What I would do is drill a 1/16 hole, and use a pick to pull. You can do it. I wouldn't try the screws. The bearing is far too close to the seal to allow the screw to thread. And be absolutely sure you remove any shavings before you put the new seal on. You can tap it into place with a large (1.5" or something like that) and a mallet.

THANK YOU. I got it off. We drilled very slightly into the metal ring. Anyway, after we made it through the metal part the seal was there. So we shaved the tip of a screw off and put that into it just a bit and used that to pry it up.

Last question on this topic:

Did I get it in the right direction?

No. It may rub on the inner race of the bearing sitting like that. And I'm afraid you'll have to ruin the seal to get it out. And here'* a tip, put some oil on the shaft when you put the seal back on. That will help it seal and prevent it from galling out the center sealing surface like mine did.

I knew something didn't look right until we had it on... It seemed to go on easier that way. Well crap. That is something else I'm going to have to spend money on today.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely be using that when the next one comes.
