Replaced snout seal and coupler, stalls quick

Like the title says I just replaced my snout seal and coupler today, now when I start the car it runs for a few seconds then starts to studder and dies. I can give it some gas to keep it running a little longer but it still stalls and smoke comes out of the end of the snout where the little shaft plug is

any ideas? I'm leaving for vacation tommorow and would like to have this finished hopefully tonight

Cehck the vacuum line under the snout that goes to the LIM. That's your boost control and the FPR

crunkfrunk Jun 17, 2010 06:17 PM

Just went checked it, all connections looked good but it did get some oil on it when I was pulling the snout off

Danthurs Jun 17, 2010 06:40 PM

Can you see the boost control move?

crunkfrunk Jun 17, 2010 07:00 PM

I don't have a vaccuum line from the LIM to the boost bypass, the FPR and MAP are connected to the LIM

could something have gotten messed up in the snout in the process of removing the pulley, pounding out the shaft and pounding it back in?

Danthurs Jun 17, 2010 08:55 PM

OK, I can dedicate a bit more time now that I'm home. OK, smoke from that hole in the shaft? There's nothing in there. This tells me something is either getting real hot, or something I can't imagine is happening. So, remove the belt and turn the pulley by hand. Does it turn smooth, or is there binding? Are you sure you put everything back in in the right order? Pounding the shaft in and out is not a good idea, it really should be pressed. I suspect the shaft is tight.

It was tight once I put the new seal in, the old one was all rubber, the new one from ZZP is like metal with a flexible part where the shaft passes through. Once it ran for a bit the shaft loosened up

Danthurs Jun 17, 2010 09:54 PM

But does it turn smoothly now?

raptor660 Jun 17, 2010 10:25 PM

was there possibly a spacer or shim that was left out so there is metal to metal contact? I have a NA so i'm just pondering

crunkfrunk Jun 17, 2010 11:15 PM

Yah, no binding but there is even resistance all the way around, it got that way when I put the new seal in, before that it was pretty free spinning
