Default Nitrous ?

Please pardon my ignorance, but as I was watching Pinks the other night, a question was raised in my mind regarding nitrous.

When they say "100 shot" or "180 shot" to what are they refering?? Is it like a 100 second shot or what?? As I said please pardon my ignorance but I am rather curious.

Thanks,

Tim

Yeah OK. I see that does make sense. Now it all comes back to me "horsepower in a bottle".

Thanks gang,

Tim

But here'* another question.. to which engine do these nitrous refer to? A 50 shot for a lil honDUH motor may not yield equivalant result to let say a 350 block.. or are they really 50 all around ??

It depends on the jets you install.

Wow no wonder people one BC dont like the use of nitrous... Generally speaking, you use jets to control your HP level (shot). A '50 shot' is going to be 50 WHP on any size motor. There are other factors that you have to apply though. You can have a '50 shot' jet in but if your bottle pressure is too low it could really be as low as a '15 shot'. There is more to this but this gives you the basics

That pretty much sums it up. Good Kits have a jet combo designed and rated for your application. With a full bottle you can expect about the rated increase. Some systems are better than others. Mine has a gas selenoid valve that progressively opens according to bottle pressure. Much safer that way.

Most good kits come with an assortment of jets for both the nitrous and gas. You are injecting both. Nitrous for more oxygen (same as what an */C does and more fuel for that extra oxygen.) Jet combos are matched but you can go up or down one a size on the fuel orifice to get it balanced for your engine if necessary. My kit came with oriface combos from 75-100-125Hp boost. I can get another jet combo kit for 150 and 200 but it has a hard time taking the 125 without further tinkering.

On a side note: I like to leave the system on even when the bottle'* empty, the PCM responds to just the straight gas being sprayed down the throat of the throttle body at WOT just fine and it'* a definate improvement on performance.
