I was talking to my dad and telling him I was thinking about putting a turbo on the series 1 and taking the super off. I like turbos and there easier to intercool. I was explaining how turbos are better for high rpm power and supers are better for low rpm. he asked why I don't just add a turbo to it and leave the super.
so......now I know this is insane but what size turbo do you think I should get?
I want this thing to fly. I'm goingto try a water over air intercooler for the supercharger and a normal intercooler for the turbo. I would put the maf sensor before the turbo and feed the supercharger. I figure the super will make a BIG turbo spool faster. crazy? yes. would it be cool to have both? definitly!! I'm thinging about making a badge for it thats says GTP-T or Twincharged

high end is what I'm aiming for. I'm going to port and polish the super and the heads.
I know this will cost money but I'm going to do all the work myself. I have the tools and my dad and 2 of my uncles are welders.
so what size turbo would work you think? t3/t4 or what?

You'll be able to make more power using twin turbos or a big single turbo, or a bigger supercharger. The M62 is inefficient, you will be better off taking itt off and converting it to a big turbo or small twin turbo'*.

are there any other roots-type SC that might be an option that would be more efficient? Talk to turtle, I think he put a turbo on his.

This dual-boost option is something Hector and I have been talking about. Use the Eaton off the line, then bypass it as the turbo spools. You get the best of both worlds that way. There would be some custom work involved.

Gutting the super and using it as a turbo upper intake would be easier, but why take the easy way?

Use a P&P non sc aluminum upper and a singe turbo will be the easiest. You can do the SC "brake" with a Mercedes SC brake. Not to hard and this would be the Best of both worlds. Personally I would go turbo or twin screw all the way.

Chris West of West coast Fiero added a Buick GN factory turbo on a series 1 3800sc in a fiero. A few at Pennocks Fiero Forum has add turbos on several diff variations of the 3800. Everyone that has done so said it was well worth time/trouble. I am adding a turbo to my 3800sc series 1 next year.

I could be way off here, but I thought that turbos go on the exhaust side of the head? I guess I need more clarification here. Where does the turbo go in relation to the SC?

well the exaust is routed through the turbo. the turbo pumps air through the supercharger. I would attach it right where the cruise control is.

Okay, I feel really ignorant here, but how do you port the turbo into the SC? Doesn't the SC push air INTO the heads, and the turbo pull air FROM the heads? If you then port the turbo back into the supercharger, you create a circle, not to mention hot air going into the supercharger. Sounds impossible to do.
