M62 (92-93 year) modular pulley system? Keyd pulleys? help!
 

Anyone have one? Know one that fits?

I know you are all probably interested in SMALLER, but myself am interested in LARGER.

If anyone knows if a modular system available will fit this year blower, that would rock!

If not, do you know the diameter of the shaft so I can check around and see if the LSJ (Cobalt m62) Modular systems will fit?

I heard the (92-93) years have a key'd pulley... is that so? Anyone have a picture?

Thanks much in advance, I need at least a 3" pulley for my custom project. Otherwise I'll have my own made. Having them be keyed would be SWEET. My blower is in the mail, it's not here yet so as such I can't look.

I have a spare sitting here (ported, polished and rebuilt just to tease you) that I can measure for you.

92-95 are all keyed for the bville. But the problem is demand and smaller size to begin with for not having a modular system available.

Can't seem to find my calipers, but it looks like 0.625 with a precision machinists ruler, which is 5/8 in case you're fractionally challenged.

Determining your belt path is critical in knowing what offset you need. For instance, the Neuspeed VW M45 conversion can't use the same pulleys as us, regardless of the fact that the input shaft and woodruff key are identical.

They are keyed.

Look into MPS for early 90's Supercoupes, they had the same keyed shaft, but ran larger pullies, IIRC.

LSJ's M62's (Cobalt's/Ions) are not key'd... INTENSE actually uses the exact same MPS system they use for L67's. Pulley Boys does sell Series 1 L67 (M62 Key'd) Pulleys up to 3".

Even though they are key'd and are easier to get off then press fit ones it is annoying bringing an electric impact and a pulley puller to change pulleys are the track.

I've thrown the idea around with Ryan and he says that is would be simple to create. Only problem is that you would be limited to about a 2.2" pulley if you create a MPS setup like everyone else. He had a few other ideas that would allow you to run a pulley smaller then anyone would want to run but it would delete the key setup.

What kind of Key is it? Anyone have a picture? I mean, I can just wait until mine comes but I'm impatient LOL.

So a standard 3 prong puller will get the job done? Much easier than pulling an M90 pulley? I hope so, because of all the things to do, I just about hate that the most..

See, unlike you guys I want BIGGER and thus a MPS would be to my benefit. This is probably why it's not made lol.

yes..standard 3 jaw works great on the M62's. The key looks just like a balancer or cam key.

Woodruff key. I can measure that tonight too. You can get one from McMaster-Carr. Assuming your donor SC doesn't already have one.

No need, I just found out from Pulleyboys that the M90 Magnusen key'd nose drive pulleys will fit the 92-93' M62's!!! That gives me a range from 3.8" down to 2.5.

SWEEEEET. This saves me considerable money!

Thank you for the legwork though Wilwren. BTW, the donor is from Mortehl and his blower he thought was a 94-95 that turned out to be 92-93. Couldn't pass it up after I saw how clean it was!

This brings up a new question... If the key is removed will a press-fit M90 pulley work for a Series 1 M62?

No, the M90 unkeyed setup uses a tapered shaft.

If that's Mortehl's 'oops' unit, it needs a rebuild, particularly the needle bearings in the case. Any time you clean a SC, solvents and degreasers will get into those bearings and break down the grease.
