Water Injection ?
Anyone have personal experience with water injection? Good or Bad? I have been tossing around the idea of installing water injection on my supercharged engine after it'* rebuilt. I can get a kit for not much money and of course water is free. Just curious if this is a good bang for the buck item and if anyone has experienced problems with it? Thanks. -Mike

We have actually dyno tested a car that had water injection. It does work but its not effective. The water vapor displaces fuel so the cylinder never gets enough fuel to make a lot of power and get the cylinder hot enough for knock. Does it work by eliminating KR yes, but at the expense of power.

Thanks for the info! I don't really know anyone who has water injection on their car. I figured this was because water injection didn't really offer much benefit or people were deathly afraid of pumping water through their engine. I used to have a 1993 Z28 with an ATI procharger. When I put a 3 core intercooler on it I was able to increase my pulley from 6 to 9 lbs. I guess adding an intercooler is probably my best option to keep temps down. Any other advice? I'm going to be tearing the engine down and starting from scratch. Anything goes!!

I'm running my 4th home-built system, but it will be running a 50/50 water methanol mix to combat the problems Rogue has detailed. He'* right. The trick is to run the lowest volume of water possible for the intercooling effect, and not a drop more.
Running the mix is even better, but it'* obviously just for track use.

Will, have you run the 1/4 mile at the track and if so what kind of times are you running? Realistically, can I get this Olds 98 down to low 13'* without nitrous? I guess I should ask how much will it cost me to run low 13'* in this GRANDPA CAR? Not that I have anything against Grandpas This might be a stupid question but are you aware of any stroker kits available for the series 1? I already need new pistons, rings, bearings, and the crank turned. Haven't checked rods yet. Well I'll quit blabbin'. Thanks for any and all input! -Mike

What was the method of injection, and where was the injector placed? WI has been used succesfully in the past with decent results. If you can manage to get it all to evaporate as quickly as possible, you can prevent some of the stuff you're talking about.
92TourSedan, you're going to be hard pressed and out alot of money to get a 92 into the 13'*. Even I'm still in the 14'* (hope to change that next year). Read the top post in the Performance and Brainstorming section, and get ready to buy a cam, swap heads and entire valvetrain with a 93-95 SSEi (yours are different), and get some porting done at the same time. Run a 2.2" pulley, PCM, and the list goes on, but don't forget a 2,000 dollar transmission custom-built to back up that power.
The only Series 1 here that probably runs in the 13'* is DrJay, and he hasn't hit the track yet. He'* still de-bugging after alot of expensive work (thousands).

As far as you guys know, are there any stroker kits out there for the series 1? I'd love to get some more cubes out of this engine and, since I'm already going to have to replace or recondition the whole bottom end, a stroker kit would not require any more work. Thanks. - Mike

Thanks for the link!!! I've had to work more overtime recently and I'm in the process of taking all my ASE Tests. I just haven't had time to search this site like I want to. Thanks again! - Mike
