a growling supercharger

I was wondering if anyone was selling a rebuilt front snout with new bearings complete. mine is making a slight noise and I believe the bearing might be going bad. would an additive to the oil help it, I dont believe in using nothing but the GM supercharger, but I was just wondering if there was any type of additive to maybe help just last a while I shop for a new supercharger for my 93 SSEI bonne.

Thanks for your help!

have you checked teh coupler?

does it make noises only at idle?

take the belt off and see if the pulley has play in it

Are you sure it's not the coupler going out? I just put a new one in mine this weekend and she's whisper quiet.

I'm not sure, but there is no play, but I think it does leak a lil oil in the front nose because I did have to put oil in it, and thank you for all your advises. I would replace the coupler with a zzperformance one anyhow if i were to find a rebuilt front nose. Thank you!

www.zzperformance.com I believe has rebuilt snouts.

And www.rollingperformance.com, and a couple others. All listed in Forced Induction, where this topic is headed......

As already asked, is the supercharger only noisy at idle? If so, it's a $36 coupler, but if it's got over 85000 miles, you might as well rebuild the snout. If it's over 100,000 miles, might as well rebuild the whole thing. It's not an expensive operation, and can be done in a day.

Use a stethescope to help isolate the problem. Don't forget that on your 93, the Alternator bracket is attached to the nosedrive of the SC. This has fooled a few into thinking the SC is on the way out, when in fact it's simply the failure-prone rear bearing of the alternator whining and growling in protest.

Consider pulling the belts one at a time to verify which belt path it's on. Just don't run without the SC belt for too long, as it drives the water pump, too ;)
