Well here i am getting ready to change my */C oil and the damn thing is stripped

now how the hell am i going to get that thing out?(the opening were the hex key is supposed to go is stripped)

Well.. the only 2 things I do ( which may be amature like ) is

1. get a cuttin wheel ( small as possible ) and grind into the screw to make a slit for a slot screw.

2. Get an old torx bit.. coat it lightly with motor oil.. and silicone ( or liquid metal type stuff )it onto the thread.. let it cure for a couple hours so it forms to the strip part.. and might be able to turn it then...

I don't know how feasible this would be as I don't know how much torque is needed to open or seal the bolt.

Make sure you have get a new bolt from either junkyard or pontiac dealership before attempting..


Sorry.. that'* the best I can do at the moment.. if I think of anymore.. I"ll let you know..

I thought mine was stripped until I tried a 4.5mm allen wrench on it. That seems to be the original size, at least on the two I've worked on.

Try custom grinding the next larger metric or standard allen wrench with a slight taper to each of the 6 sides. Gently tap it into the plug with a rubber mallet while turning the wrench counter clockwise. If that doesn't work, use a small center punch to punch a deep indentation in the flat portion of the top of the plug adjacent to one of the 'flats' of the hex. Then angle the center punch in the 'loosening' direction and gently drive it with a small hammer until it starts to break loose.

If none of this works, DO NOT drill the plug for an easy-out. The plug is too shallow, you'll drill through, and then you'll have high-carbon steel shavings in your nosedrive. If all this fails, clean the plug with alcohol or acetone (or methanol), dry it thoroughly, and then GRIND grooves around the right sized allen wrench. These grooves will make space for the next step to bind better. Mix up some JB Weld, and apply it in the grooves you put in the wrench, then put the wrench in the plug. If you do this, use the LONG end of the wrench, so you can turn it after the epoxy sets up. After it cures for at least 24 hours, you should be able to turn it out. Get a new plug either before or soon after you do this, unless you like the idea of a permanent handle in your plug!

Yes, whatever you do don't drill through the plug. And always have some spare plugs, I've found that they strip easily.

well, i got my car back so i think i'll get started on it tommorrow. do u think the plug is likely sitting on the shelf at the dealer , or do i have to order it? unfortunatly we don't have wreckers here with a thousand ssei'* laying around !

I'd bet the dealer has one on the shelf. It'* a low-cost, small size part, and there'* a bunch of cars out there that use it. The M62 and M90 both use the same plug.

actually , i had to order it but it'll be in tommorrw can't wait to start on it!

well , i got the plug out it was a piece of cake . just used a '' easy out '' and got a squirt of black */c oil in my face lol ! man do these */c '* ever get hot ! and why does it take so long for them to cool down?
