Default Supercharger scragged?

Took my Bonnie in for a look at a weird hesitation, dealer says my */C is fried, and can't be rebuilt. He quoted a price of $2500 for a new M62. Anybody know what kind of price I'd be looking at for a rebuilt unit?

A few questions if you please

What did they say was fried?

And what is it doing?

The dealer told me the same kinda crap, and I fixed mine for less than $100, so could we start from the beginning

They said the snout bearings were shot and I can confirm that they were rattling for a while before they went. I had tried to get the car in, but time and money wouldn't meet in the middle.I asked if they could replace the bearings and got a firm "No way".
If I can I'll get someone else to take a peek before I spend that kind of money.

Before you blow $2,500, and get ripped try this:
http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/pro...ebuild_kit.htm

This isn't that bad of a job, can be done in two hours easy and only requires a few hand tools. If you don't feel up to it, check around for a good mechanic to do it

I'll have to take a look at the thing myself and make sure the bearing seats(or whatever you call them) haven't been screwed up. If they are good, I'll take your advice and owe you big-time!!!
Thanks

Hey! If you aren't up to the rebuild yourself, but a swap is in the cards, try www.canadiansupercharger.com Their rebuilt SC'* and Nosedrives are a FRACTION of dealer cost, and are quality rebuilds. Something like $500 for the SC?

Superchargers don't 'fry'. Ever.

As Bill says "Superchargers don't FRY"

I have now done 4 of these for people, all 4 were bad couplers... one was even broken. So far I haven't even found a bad bearing, just lucky I guess. Even if you were the first to "fry" a */C, a quality rebuild is $600+- including shipping

if you need help let us know, there are a lot of how-to'* on this site and all kinds of people to help

Gonneville, you said there was rattling for a while. Was it only at idle? Take off the belt and see there is a play. It could very well be that you need to only replace the coupler (about $30-$40).
