Driving SSEI without Supercharger belt hooked up.

Well Guys on my 01 SSEI supercharger belt is looking bad and I need to get a replacement the parts store around my parents place does not have one and it being Sunday my options are limited and I need to get back home today about 2 hours North. I dont want to take a chance of it busting and causing more problems as I drive, so I thought I could take off the belt and drive without supercharger back home and get a replacement. Any problems with this, I don't want to cause damage to my car or the supercharger please advise
thanks
JG

You can on a Series 2, but not on a Series 1. Yours will run like dog meat, but you can.

Your car will NOT operate without the S/C, or you will grenade the engine.

luckily on the series II engine the supecharger belt is not essential for keeping the engine running. I'd just leave it on until you can find a replacement.. You CAN run without the belt but you'll notice about a 40% power loss when doing that. It'd be a lot slower than an NA Bonneville because the rotors inside the S/C will act as a huge restriction and the gear ratio also. Just leave the belt on until you can find a replacement..

Quite untrue on the Series 2.

The only reason a Series 1 can't run without it is that the water pump runs off the same belt.

You can run without the sc belt, I talked to one guy this summer and he had his off for over a month with no problems. Actually he said he got better fuel milage with it off?

That's gotta be BS. It would rob far too much power, which kills efficiency.

I drove mine 600 KM without the SC while on my way back from Toronto. Even with the intercooler as an added restriction the car drove fine...and I did get considerably better mileage, probably because I didn't stomp on it as much.

Please don't post such statements when you don't know the facts.

WHen I bought the GTP, the guy was telling me he ran the car w/o the SC belt for about two weeks. The DIC had an average of 23 mpg. Before I even drove the car from his driveway I reinstalled it, now the DIC stays at about 20-20.5 mpg. I could care less about 3 mpg, because I have boost.
