Default boost Hissing like a cat.

ok.. I haven't hit boost other then twice on a short burst to overtake slow ***.. I just got my car back and in fear of all the rust and built up haven't been hitting boost much.. the last time I hit boost I got about 3/4 throttle but boost guage also read 3/4 up on the boost gauge .. that'* not wat worries me.. the part that worries me is I hear what sounds like the boost solenoid or something venting.. it goes pfftt.. pfft.. pfftt.. during boost.. but the guage doesn't move and I don't feel a difference in accelaration.. any ideas?? Could that be the EGR?? ( Since I'm pretty sure I have an issue there.. read my emission post )

How do I troubleshoot the boost solenoid and such?

Sounds to me like your Boost Solonoid is dumping boost.

Have someone get in the car. Pop the hood (pull the engine cover off to expose the SC), and put on the E-brake, block the wheels. Start the car, put it in gear, and with the foot on the brake, rev the engine to 3,000 rpm'*.

YOU stand next to the left fender where you can see the boost actuator (on the fron to of the SC) and see if it moves between idle rpm'* and 3000 (while in gear).

I will try that this weekend and hopefully not hit anyone .. so if it opens that means the solenoid is shot?? I remember reading earlier that if something is wrong with the car the */C will dump the boost.. now when that happens.. does it usually have a SES light and code?? Don't want to spend money for new parts to find out it'* something else

Thanx Bill... Jim will buy you a beer or three for me..

Murdock, just compare it'* operation to Tam'* 00. You'll see how it'* supposed to work, and what it'* actually doing.

That'* another beer.
