Castrol WHAT for cleaning rotors?

I've got the rotors here out of my old 99 case, along with a new case to port and install these rotors in and I want to clean the rotors before I reassemble it. What is that Castrol product I've heard mention of for cleaning the rotors?
I know I should take it easy on them and definitely will considering how there is practically 0% rotor coating missing, but there is abit of junk on them.

Leave them dirty, it adds a tad more effiency to the SC.

BillBoost37 01-05-2007 04:17 PM

Agreed, do not clean them. if you clean them you take the chance of cleaning the lubrication from the bearings on that plate as well.

A better seal is derived from the way the are right now.

To answer your question it's Castrol Super clean.

I also would not reccomend cleaning the rotors for the above mentioned reasons.

i cleaned my rotors... sue me

willwren 01-05-2007 05:23 PM

If you clean them, they'll be gunked back up in about 2000 miles. No loss in cleaning, other than a loss of Castrol Super Clean.

I use it anyway, so I can see the condition of the rotors/case I chose for the car. I can mix/match quality parts by seeing the blemishes better.

If you don't have more than one SC, there's no real point to this.

I cleaned mine up to, all I used was citrus engine degreaser, worked EXCELLENT!

Can you swap rotors into a different casing or are they matched :?:

willwren 01-06-2007 11:17 AM

You can. But I'm not sure I'd try it on a GenV. I've done it on a Gen2, and boosty has done it on a Gen3.

2000SilverBullet 01-06-2007 12:15 PM

Good. Then my old Gen 3 has some hope of revival........for someone else, if the Gen 5 makes me happier. ;)

BillBoost37 01-08-2007 07:33 AM

Paul... I've been told Ed Morad has batches of rotors from time to time. Many swap rotors for better coating or bad rotor plate bearings.

2000SilverBullet 01-09-2007 12:21 AM

Maybe you'll get lucky searching the boneyards. ;)

I've packed it away in the garage attic for now. It can wait.

GTPMORAD 01-19-2007 02:08 AM

I have rotors. :)

So you guys don't recommend cleaning out the SC? Or just don't clean the rotors? I've got my M62 appart to change the coupler and it's FULL of black tar/gunk everywhere. I'd like this SC to be good for a while; what things should I check/clean/lube while I'm in there?

willwren 01-21-2007 12:40 AM

Open? Replace the needle bearings. Don't clean anything else. It's pointless.

Do NOT reassemble that SC without replacing those needle bearings and replacing the two bearings in the nosedrive.

Drunken Sailor 01-21-2007 12:56 AM

Where would I buy the bearings? Do the M90 parts ZZP and other sell work? Thanks for your help guys.
