Default M62 rebuild

Hi,as some of you know I recently purchased a 1993 SSEI. I was told the supercharger was going (bad),I am going to rebuild it myself.I ordered the parts and they are on the way.I have taken the supercharger off the car and found that it had almost no oil left in it and what was there was black and thick. It obviously had a leak in the nose cone seal as you can see the remnants of the leak on the underside of the nosecone.I ordered the needle bearings also following Willwrens advice.I have a press at work available to use so now I just need to make the special tool(bolt with hole in it).I bagged and tagged everything to make the job go quicker on reinstallation.I am going to go ahead and do the valve cover gaskets and LIM while I am in there to button this motor up for a while. If there is anything I should watch out for or need to know give me a yell.I am new to this but it has been a great learning experience so far. What can I use to clean up the case without damaging the heat coating? Can I use brake cleaner? I will post some pics of the job as soon as I can,,Tim

Don't use brake cleaner on the SC case. Use some sort of degreaser only. All cleaning before new bearings, and don't bother cleaning the inside. You want it dirty so it can 'seal itself' better.

I have a dilema, the nosedrive from my original supercharger has a small amount of aluminum that was hogged out by a bearing,it is the rear bearing that this happened too.I was wondering if the nosecones are interchangeable from all M62,* regardless of the year.I found through looking at the one I got from the salvageyard it is not for a 92-93.Oddly enough I looked at the year of the car and it indeed was a 92,so someone put the wrong one on it.Anyway I want to swap nosedrives, keeping my original pulley of cource, any problems doing this?Tim

All H and C body GM cars from 91-95 that got the M62 have interchangeable nosedrives.

Rebuild the replacement.

You'll need to get creative on the nosedrive. As you press one bearing in, the other will want to come out. You need to support the pin plate with a large socket while you press the upper bearing with another.

Thanks,I kinda knew that was going to be a challenge from my research.I will have a very extensive selection of options at work as they have a maintenance department with several tool boxes full of every socket I would ever need(not to mention the two guys who own them with tons of time and willingness to help) I am going to try this tomorrow, will let you know how it goes.

I already replaced the lower intake gaskets and heater hose fitting. The old gasket looked pretty good IMO,but was worth the peace of mind and was not that difficult to do.I also did the valve cover gaskets, one bolt hole was stripped,so I had to place a thread insert in it,but all is well now.Tim

You'll see some good info here and a vid. Poke through it.

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...r=asc&start=50

In the vid, the bottom of the '3-pin coupler plate' is supported by a socket that fits just inside the pins. Notice a larger socket pressing the larger bearing into the pulley end of the supercharger. The press can now press the two bearings towards each other.

After that, flip it over and use an even larger socket to press the seal in place.

Thanks,I had seen that post during my research, but the video of the nosedrive does not come up for me.I tried several times.Great topic you had there, very creative. Off topic,I used to live in Eugene Oregon for two years during my school days, been to Corvalis to watch the Iowa Hawkeye basketball team play against AC green and his Oregon state Beavers,,Iowa won.Back on topic,if you can fix the video I would love to see how you did it.Tim

Buckeyes suck. :P

The vid is on your end. It'* hosted by photobucket, and works for everyone. If you have a problem, you're missing a plugin. Try a different computer.
