Default */C questions and others

Hi I am new to this forum. I am mech enclined and need some help. First, My sc seems to rattle. I took the belt off and there is a little bit of play when I spin the sc pully back and forth. I was wondering if this is a problem. Second, while under heavy accel, or up hill my bonnie will stumble. Its a 94 3800 supercharger. 104000 miles. I have not checked the oil in the sc yet.

Sounds like a bad coupler. You can pick up a new one from www.zzperformance.com for cheap. The couplers do seem to get sloppy after 100,000. If you're a mechanic you shouldn't have too much trouble changing it on a weekend either. I did mine myself and I can assure you, I am no mechanic.

Here are some links that might help:

The accel up hill may be an intake leak, bad ignition, or who knows what. Not real good at that troubleshooting myself. :?

In regards to the stumble. I had the same thing happen to me, and it ended up being an ignition problem. I replaced the wires and plugs, and all was good after that. When was the last time you changed your plugs and wires?

Easy fix on the coupler. If there is any play or lash in the pulley then the coupler is bad, this happens a lot from what I'm finding. Your a mechanic and you should have no problem at all fixing this. There are a lot of links for parts in the links section, your best bet is the ZZPerformance coupler for ?$38.00 +- and you will need some other gaskets and misc parts. If you go to my cardomain site on page 2 is the complete how to for this with links and part #'* for GM and where to get those.
If you, for some reason need some help there are a lot of people here that can walk you thru it.

Just got the car and I dont think the plugs has been change for a long while. Just bought the stuff to do it. About the SC it sounds like there is a little bit of space between the gears. The reson I think that the sc is make noise at idle is due to the slight miss, the SC gauge ls slightly moving back and forth. Im sure i can change the cuppler but I dont want to do all that work and then find out that its something else. Im also looking for a book on the vehicle. any one

The internals of your SC will outlast you. The coupler is designed to be the weak point. That'* where the slop is coming from that you're feeling. I've never seen a gear even break of a tooth, much less wear. Rotors, too. Although it would be pretty hard to break those!

If properly cared for, the SC will outlast any car. The only maintenance required is changing the oil occasionally, and a coupler every 100,000 to 150,0000 miles. The ZZP coupler is supposed to be improved, but we don't have any long-term testing on it.

Noise at idle is a coupler. A jittery boost gauge can be normal. Your stumbling is unrelated to the SC.

I have another ? I was wondering how long I have until the */C cuppler goes out. I am planning on driving from ohi to South carolina this summer and was hoping not to repair the */C. It does not sound too bad right now. Some one here said its not hard, I heard you have to take the entire super charger off.

a factory replacement coupler will last u about 100k, however zzperformance.com sells couplers that are supposed to last longer, no one can confirm this, because no one has ever had a problem with the zzp coupler that i know of
