1998 SSEI No boost
 

I have 1998 SSEI and the boost gauge will not go above zero ever, it used to. I replaced the supercharger bypass solenoid and no change have checked for codes no codes were found and the car runs fine. When the car is started I can see the supercharger actuator pull closed and the bypass solenoid is energized and closes also. Could my PCM be confused is there a way to reset it, or would you recomend going to dealer and have it reflashed? Just guessing from what I have read, any help would be apreciated.

If it was a bad map sensor don't you think it would give a code

Only if it were dead, a false reading would not set a code.

DTC P0108 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Circuit High Voltage

Your problem may be the same as mine was. If so here is your answer.
This vacuum line 'T' had popped off the nipple coming out of the lower intake. Only takes about 1 second to fix. Just slip it back on an -WHALLA!!

Thanks to the guys who helped on this one. The problem turned out to be a sticky arm that the actuator connects too not allowing the boost door to open, a little penetrating oil and away it went lots of boost again before never went above zero. Thanks again.

Just a question... now that you are boosting... what is your gauge going upto on the + side?

The 1/4 mark... 1/2 mark... 3/4 or full?

Stock is 7 PSI tops...3/4 of the way I guess :?

when mine use to work.. it went way higher then that.. 7/8 of the way.. don't know what PSI that is.. it's in Kpa :roll:

How come you didn't notice that lack of boost when you test drove it Jimbo? ;)

:oops: I was more focused on the road then that...it was a 10 min test drive to make sure the car was operable for ya :wink:

FYI

7 PSI is 48kPa

10 PSI = 70kPa

Boost Gauge position on full boost
 

To the guy who asked how far the boost gauge now goes it depends on wheel spin it will bounce off the full mark two or three times from a dead stop when you hold it to the floor and the tires are really spining up. I would say the average is 3/4 like one of the guys said. It seemed to only give half boost the first couple of times I nailed it after the repair then it was like the computer woke up or something.

I'm going to have mine checked next week to see if I'm missing boost or if the gauge is reading incorrectly

Didn't want to bring this old topic up, but it could be the same problem as mine.

I do not see this on mine Pontiac Bonneville 1996 SE Engine VIN=K. Not in the same place at least. Is this 'T' something that came on later models or SSEis?

Anyway, I have P0107 and P0108 error codes. All the wires seem secure and in place. I did clean up the sensor. When I take out the sensor there are no changes in the operation of the engine. There are 5 volts coming to the sensor. I tried resetting, but the codes came back up.

I have GM# for this sensor = 16187556 (some places list it as AS49, some as AS59). I have found on ebay GM#9359409 (standard #AS155), and seller lists my car under the models it will fit. Do you guys think that will work (if I were to replace the sensor)? When I did search on AC Delco's site with my VIN #, I did 213-796 which is AS155.

You don't have a supercharger, and therefore that fitting. I'd suggest starting a new topic though in 1992-1999 so you can get better attention. Forced Induction is really only supercharger/turbo/NOS related, whereas 1992-1999 will get more exposure for you.
