Headlight Switch Question

Headlight Switch Question
My 95 Bonneville w/o Twilight Sentinel is acting up again. The headlights come on all the time but the dash and tail lights will only come on after a solid thump to the dash above the switch. The headlight switch was already replaced once. I know the problem lies with a tendency for the switch connector to melt/deform.
Here'* my question...
Has anyone figured out a way to address this problem? I'd really like to avoid replacing the switch and connector every 6 months. Does the connector melt because of a problem with the switch design? If so, could I just wire in some other style switch? I don't care about the ability to dim the dash lights. My only concern is that the dash lights and tail lights come on without any problems.
