Funny thing going on...My Instrumental Panel lights and Backlights are not turning on when I pull the **** out that is used for night-time driving. It'* not a fuse problem because I have replaced the fuses that could have been associated with the problem. Also, the fuses I removed were still functioning properly, as well as the bulbs. I took it to a mechanic to give me an synopsis and he mentioned something about a "modulator" that may need to be replaced. Also, he had me look at a Technical Service Bulletin on "Daytime Running Lamp - Retrofit Kits" and I called Autozone to find out if they had a part for either the modulator or the retrofit kit and they were unable to find the part. I don't know if that is the part that needs to be replaced, if any, considering my problem. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Two possibilities, in this order:

1) The rheostat in your headlight switch is shot. If you can see even the slightest momentary flicker of the dash lighting when you rotate the light-switch **** while it'* pulled out to the On position, that'* your problem. (Even if they won't flicker at all, it'* still probably your problem. ) Not a horrendous job to replace; you can do it yourself and we have instructions for that in TechInfo.

2) Your exterior lighting (parking and taillamps, but specifically not headlamps) has blown its fuse. Although the dash lighting has its own fuse, it draws its power from the external running-light circuit. If your taillights _are_ working, then this is not your problem.

I have no idea what he'* referring to here. Are you sure he wasn't talking about the rheostat? That acts as your dimmer for the dash lights.

I have no idea what a DRL retrofit kit would have to do with any of this. I really think the problem is nothing more than a bad headlight switch, assuming that both your taillight and dash lighting fuses are good. Let us know!

P.*. When you say "backlights" above, are you in fact referring to your taillights, or to the backlighting circuit in your dashboard?

When you pull the headlight switch out to check it, please pull the connector off and ensure there are no melted pieces.
