What's your take on rebuilt Fuel pumps? / 95 vs 96-99 pumps?
 

Friday when I picked my car up from the tranny shop I noticed before we turned the engine over, but with the engine on the fuel pump was very audible.
So I figure now with the new transmission, smaller pulley, and more modding this winter, along with the noisy pump I figure that should be my next project.

What is the general consensus on rebuilt factory pumps?


Also, I'm curious about the flow rate of the 92-95 L67 fuel pumps vs 96-99 flow rates.

I'm curious if the 96-99 flows more, and if it does should I adapt one from GMPD into my 95 SLE SC? Or should I just get the Walbro 255 LPH High Pressure pump?

Tip..for you if you haven't done one of these tanks before. The nut on top of the bolt for the strap sits in a hole the rough shape of the nut. 1/4inch of bolt and dirt later that nut spins freely and you have to cut straps.

Order straps in advance and get some bolts to replace with. 2 inch bolts were a two person job. However 2 1/2 would work great.

Or if you're good with a torch, cut the heads of the bolts off.

Also, a noisy pump doesn't always mean a failing pump.

My straps on both cars are fine, and I think SonomaZR2's are also.

Factory pumps, you have bass-ackwards. The 92-95 L67 pumps will outflow the S2 pumps. Go figure. Series 1 pumps are capable of supporting 400hp.

But you can buy a Walbro 255l/hr pump for the same price.

Rebuilt pumps are probably fine, as they replace all the guts. Buy the correct pump for your car, and don't try to fit a S2 pump that isn't designed to work with your FPR or injectors.

Give the strap bolts a real good shot of WD-40, then go to work on the other tank connections. The bolt may be ready to come out by the time you get back to them.

PB Blaster is probably a better choice if they are rusty. First thing we did was jack car up. Second was spray all rusted bolts
