So I stuck my head under my dash this evening... I don't even really know why, I think I was bored :P and noticed the recessed, yet exposed incandescent light which provides light for the pedals/foot area.

Has anyone replaced these with LEDs before? What voltage is provided to that socket (the bulb was too hot to take out and measure :P)? and how much current can I safely draw?

I've got about 300 blue, orange, and white super bright LEDs kickn' around I should put to good use!

It'* a 194 bulb. It'* 12 volts to the socket and they work great for the LED'*. Current should be ~2 amps

Not sure on that. What do you want to do with it?

About 4 LEDs per side that are in that circuit, so they're on when the doors open.

This is just a thought, you could do a 1" x 1" square of led'* around where the old bulb went. Pop a hole and get the led holder from radioshack? Just a thought. I have a pair of color changing led'* the plug right into the old socket

My concern was with evenly spreading the light around the whole floor. So I was considering spreading them out a lot, essentially 4 evenly spaced along the furthest point back.

Are you saying they have an LED holder that plugs into the 194 socket?

The make a color changing led that plugs into that socket. I like your idea though.

So if anyone knows an easy way to tap into the circuit it would be greatly appreciated since I think that'* the last hurdle to overcome, then I have a project for tomorrow!

EDIT Note: tapping into the circuit can most defanitely disable the 194, since I won't want it operational anymore anyways.

If you want even light with LEDs youll have to use a lot more than 4. Im using 30 lleds in a single row on each side. You can get Superflux leds in orange. They are quite bright and have a very large viewing angle which is important for even light output.
