trunk light wiring
 

Hey everybody,

So anyway, I've installed a small system in 02. Just enough to put a little bump in my music. I have done a custom install with a piece of MDF cut to fit in the space under the back dash. I want to spice it up a little by adding neon. I have a 9" neon tube to go back there. I am wanting to disconnect the trunk light and wire the neon to the harness, so that when the trunk opens the neon comes on.

What I need to know is of the two wires which one is the hot?? Okay for the other part of my conundrum after I cut the plug off the neon which wire would be considered the "hot" wire??

OK i recently did this to my car.....i installed neons that get there power from the trunk light so then the light is off the neons are off....i also installed a switch...anyway

the trunk wiring is interesting....when the switch is activited it takes the ground away, but you always have 12v going through the other wire

do you have a test light? take the trunk light out and look for the connector.... probe the wires and see what one has 12v

do the same to the connector that you cut off the neon....take it pug it in...see what has the power...and look at your neon wiring....connect postive and negfrom the neon to the trunk wiring...test it to see.. and your done.....

I replied to this exact post this morning I thought. Anyway, at the trunk light connector - The DK/BLU lead that terminates at pin C is the positive, the ORN/BLK lead that terminates at pin B is negative (ground). The ground is switched in this particular ckt through theRear Compartment Lid release Actuator. When you pop the trunk lid, the release actuator "normally open" contacts "close" which closes in the ground ckt to turn on the light. There is also an input to the Rear Integration Module (RIM) from the release actuator to generate a trunk ajar signal. As far as the positive lead on the neon, it's anyone's guess. What are the colors coming out of the neon. I'd say red, orange, brown could be positive, but not sure. Is there a schematic provided with the neon? Is it polarity sensitive? I'm not sure.
