Are you talking about halogen bulbs that are HID replicas? What is the question?

Had a pair of 9005 high beam sylverstars in. They burn out too quick so I went back to stock.. I have 4200k HID lights for my low beams with denso ballasts out of a Lexus. I will be installing Valeo projectors in as soon as i get my new (used) housings off eBay. HID is the only way to go.

SOrry if i was a bit vague, I want the look of the HID blue xenon bulbs, but without going down the whole replacement kit road. Just the bulbs are needed. Can the car handle 80w bulbs?

I would just go onto eBay and get a pair for $.99.. If you are just wanting that blue HID look. I know people waist $30+ for a pair. It'* not worth it in my opinion. The car can handle 80w bulbs, but they run really hot. I have heard of them warping housing.

Get Sylvania Silverstars. They have a whiter light than stock and are a bit brighter. There have been a lot of reports of them burning out quickly, but there have been a lot of people who dont have any problems. The blue tinted lights are illegal in many places, and they dont light as well as the stock bulbs. Also, those 'performance' bulbs claim to have really high wattages, but they could be the 'equivalent' rating of a comparable halogen, its usually just a marketing gimmick. Stay away from bulbs that say 'for offroad or show use only'. I have a set of those blue xenon bulbs, the blue looked cool, but I took them out because they gave such poor visibility.

ASk Smell PErv ( aka smellbird ) .. he has installed a HID kit ( not complete retro ) into his..Mice ( SSE1990 ) has seen and love it

the blue type tinge bulbs will not match the output of HID, nor will it give you the colourful cutoff colours HID gives.

If you do decide to go with a blue tinge bulb, ensure it'* DOT approved ( most aren't ). Up in Toronto.. due to street racing scene, cops has and will give ticket for non DOT approved bulbs/light.. As phoenix_flame220 stated.. those marked for shows/off road use are illegal to be on on the street.

You wont get the color of HID'* w/o projectors. Also, HIDs alone are not suggested. it is very blinding to oncomming traffic.

Especially when it'* rainin and the ground is wet.. but a properly aimed HID shouldn't be much more blinding under normal circumstance other then possible dear vs. headlight syndrome where you stare @ it or if you're senior citizen old and your eyes can't adjust as quickly

And yes corvettercrazy.. forgot bout that it'* the projector that gives the nice rainbow light cut off


EDIT: the problem also is if HID is used on normal halogen or OEM light projector it will create hot spots and glare so HID must be used with appriopriate projector to utilize the benefit of HID and make it easier on oncoming traffic

I would go with the Silverstar high beam low beam combo, if your looking for good color and nice brightness. Also if your willing to do a little work I would recommend doing what I did to my DRL'* and foglights. This topic is found at http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...821&highlight=
