three gages gone haywire

I have a 93 SSE, about half of the time the oil, gas, and temp gages work fine the othe half they dont work properly, the oil will peg at 120 lbs the gas will read full no matter how full the tank is and the temp stays at the low side of the gage. All three gages do this at the same time, when they decide to work properly all three do that at the same time. any help nailing down this problem? thanks Bob 93

It could be a problem with the gages cluster... It's tough to tell with some of those electrical problems.

Check the grounds and the connectors. make sure their tight and corrosion free.

You'll find the cluster removal procedure in Techinfo if you need it. You may need to disassemble each individual layer or board, and re-seat the connectors.

Agreed; since all three gauges are affected simultaneously, the problem is in the gauge cluster, with either the main plugs going in the back (there are two: one behind the tach and a slightly-smaller one behind the DIC area) or with the clips that connect the gauges to the circuit boards.

I'd say there's a good chance that just disassembling and reassembling per the directions in TechInfo will get things going again. (And hey, you've got all weekend to work on it! 8) )
