Temperature Gage and general gage Worries
 

:? I recently purchased a 92 SSEi with the Supercharger. I noticed recently that the electric cooling fans are not coming on and the temp gauge is shooting up pretty high. Reading the tech manual it says that I might need to replace either the ECT ( Electronic Coolant Temp Sensor ) or the fan relay is not working...any advice would be appreciated. ;) Also my rear power trunk release stopped working as well.....its got about 216,000Km on it.

Gizmo, first thing to check is the relays on the maxifuse panel. Mine weren't working either until I pulled the relays and just connected and disconnected them a few times. It seems that 5 times is usually the magical number. Search under Willwren and fan override for which relays they are. I think they are on the end...

Adding some dielectric grease (parts store under $5) will keep any corrosion from happening again. If this doesn't help then the next part to consider is the temp sensor for the pcm and fans is driectly under the throttle body...drain off a little coolant and it's easy.

:) I have tried the relay option and now I get the fans coming on when I have the AC running, but not when the AC is turned off. Looks like I am going to have to look into getting a temp sensor. Thanks for the help !! ;)

I fear you have the same issue my 95 does. My gauge is off by quiet a bit and it's only noticable once it gets over 200. At redline my temp is really only 215 even though according to the gauge it's 240.

If you can have it scanned for actual temp please do and let it get to 215 and the fans should come on.

If you can't get it scanned for a reasonable price, change the fan sensor but I believe you'll find it doesn't change anything just like when I changed mine. Scanning is what did the trick.

Or let it run up and touch redline...touch if the fans don't come on by that point kick on the ac and get it cooled down.

looks like everyone including myself is having this problem :roll:

And I thought I had the issue because my small circuit board that hooks the three gauges to the right came from a 93 instead of a 95. Although I thought the board and gauge worked perfectly when I hooked up the 93 cluster.
