Sunroof problem. What do you think?

Today I took the liberty of adjusting the height of my sunroof to sit flush with the car roof on my 2002 sle. Now I've had to do this a couple of times before, but I got it so perfect this time that I just had to try it out right away and make sure it still opened and closed in the same possition. I hit the "Tilt" button... It went up! And back down to where I adjusted it. Now I hit the "Open" and it begins to slide back... About 3/4 of the way open I hear this whicked loud gear-slip sounding grind noise like a stick shift in the wrong gear. So I quickly pushed the button to bring it back to the closed possition and it did just that as usual, with a couple of grinding noises on it's way back, but never jolted or struggled. It settles and closes right where I adjusted it again like nothing happened. I decide to hit the tilt button to see if after all that it would still go up. Geuss what? It tilted up, nice and level and smoothly too. I closed it and hit the open button again and only the driver side of the sunroof drops down to slide back, leaving the passenger side in it's closed possition along with that crazy grinding noise from the side already lowered ready to slide back. I noticed when the sunroof is closed I can pop the lifting passenger side up with some pressure about 1/4 inch. I cannot, however, do this to the drivers side. It's dark now so i went out and adjusted the tightness of the screws to losen them just a little, ran my finger along the track, tried to move the lift arm, wiggle this pinch that kind of thing. Everything is tight except for that pop upwards I can make it do. I will be outside tomorrow trying to figure this out more in depth, but I wanted to know what everyone thinks about it or if you have had a similar bad happening.

Help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

sounds like you have a broken gear grinding away.

at least you still have tilt.

Do you have an idea of where there is a local junk yard by you?

You may have to go and get some parts to fix your sun roof.
