EGR Emission
its so funny how one keeps up with all the tune ups and and still fail the emissions test.
My 1993 SSEI bonneville failed 3 times on the emissions test even after a full tune up with irdium spark plugs and taylor wires and PCV valve.
I was wondering has anyone ever had this problem. I changed my PCV thinking this would solve it. sometimes the SES light would come on and off when your driving but never stays on. I checked the EGR valve (those damn things are expensive) didnt seem anything wrong with it, I put a new gasket on it and now it runs real rough after just putting in a new gasket. No leaks on the gasket, which I checked. I did push the 3 holes up and down on the egr valve to see if the worked. I'm wondering after pushing the valves up and on to see if they work did anything to make it run rough. Is there a solution in fixing this or should I just get a new EGR Valve. Which I am going to do anyways just for my knowledge of knowing its brand new.

EGR Emission
Thanks I will keep that in mind, but thats not what made the car run rough, Its after i took the egr valve and checked to see if the pintles were stuck closed or open. They seemed to work fine. but after I reinstalled the egr valve is when it runs rough.

Remove the EGR and clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner. Inside and out. Then lightly lube it with a light oil.
Use the procedure in Techinfo to pull your codes from the PCM to see what failed before doing anything else.

Well I dont have a scanner to check codes, but I may have to go to the dealership and have them check it. I did replace the EGR Valve with a new one and guess what it ran even more rougher. just want to know if those digital egr valves need to be adjusted from the top on all 3 pintels, I see that they do have a hex alan screw adjustment on the top but I dont know if I should even attempt to mess with those.
