Default 97 bonni needs electrical help

Hello everyone!!!

New to this someone bear with me PLEASE!!!!!
I've got major electrical problems with my 97 bonni se. She'* doing all kinds of strange things. I'll just list a few for starters, and any help would be great!
1. Occasionally car will not start.(Checked fuses, relays, battery cables, starter) What I think is happening is that she'* not getting power to the fuel pump. Why this is beats me. The last time this happened I F***** with all the switches (turning them on and off) and she started.
2. The interior lights and courtesy lights will not come on (Dash, head, and tail lights works fine).Door locks don't work. Mirror don"t work. Warning lights and chimes doesn't work as well. That'* not exactly worded right because they switch back and forth. Ex. If the interior lights work , the door locks, mirrors, seat belt light warning and chime doesn't. And if the door locks etc. works the lights don't .

Any one have any ideas?

How did you determine the pump is not getting power?

Had it to garage one time when it wouldn't start. After I had it towed there they said they checked everything, and it was fine. The only problem was It wasn't getting power at the fuel pump. Left it over night and next morning she started power to fuel pump.

The fuel pump gets power when the fuel pump relay is energized. The PCM determines when the relay gets energized. I think for your year the relay is above the passenger footwell but some years had them in the engine compartment relay center. Your owners manual may show where it is. You may be able to swap 2 of the relays & see if that helps. BTW - is the car starting now?

These cars have an oil level switch. Some of the wiring diagrams for earlier years showed that the car won't start with low oil. Just for the heck of it check the oil level.

I had already swapped the fog light relay with the fuel pump relay and it '* the same.
Yes the car is running for now until it hits a glitch. The last time she gave out she lost power to all interior lights, door locks, chimes and mirrors. So I started turning them on and off.
Put the key in and she started. Can these circuits get crossed and still work occasionly.

Without knowing how the mechanic determined the fuel pump wasn't getting power we could be barking up the wrong tree. The pump may not get power all the time. If he checked the fuel pressure & found none then you'd know the pump wasn't working. Since you’re also having trouble with lights you need to make sure all the battery cables are clean & tight at both ends. There are also ground busses that run under the carpeting on both sides of the car. If you've every had wet carpets then you could have some corrosion in these connections.

I have checked and cleaned all battery cables. I also cleaned the ground busses on the driver and passenger side. The one on the drivers side was pretty bad thought I've found the problem, but not so lucky, still no lights or door locks. The one on the passenger side wasn't to bad but cleaned it anyways.

I found a wiring diagram for the lights, if you want a copy send me a PM with your Email address. The courtesy lights & door locks are controlled by the "Body Control Module" aka MALL. You could try connecting a test light up between terminal G (1 of 3 orange wires) & terminal D (Black wire). If the bulb lights the MALL is probably bad. If it does'nt light you can try grounding it to a piece of metal - if it lights you have a bad ground. If it doesn't light you'd better recheck fuse 6a.

Edit - See if Bill Boost has a spare mall. He'* selling parts in this thread. http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=58543
