outside temp display says 137!
after leaving my car at a local shop for about a week my outside temp display now is about 100 degrees off! it says its 137, give or take a few depending on how cold it actually is.
is there a way to reset this so the temp will be accurate again? hopefully i wont have to replace some more sensors! any input is greatly appreciated. |
Check the connection to the sensor. It is located in front of the radiator, in the middle of the car, about half way down. Make sure that it is clean and tight.

yep, i checked it out. seems to be a good, clean connection. do you think disconnecting the battery would help, like resetting it. is there a way i would be able to calibrate it, or is there something that needs replacing?

Check it. Same readings apply to that sensor as the IAT and ECT:

That may require replacing... I'd like you to unplug that sensor and see if the ECC reverts to 35F or so..
The sensor should be around $14 __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
well, i unplugged it waited a couple of seconds, got in the car and there was "- - -" on the display.ok.
so i plugged it back up and now it reads 50F. weather.com says its 45, but who knows where they get their measurements. i thinks its about correct. i'll have to watch it more so i can tell if its accurate or not. so i guess unplugging it reset it? Thanks! |
It is quite possible it had slight corrosion on the connections. Often just the act of unplugging and then plugging it back in is enough to clean things up.

i knew it was a good idea to keep my on it! would you beleive it says 140 now? i thought it was fixed! i guess im going to get some contact cleaner and make sure the terminals dont have any corrosion, then do the test willwren suggested.

When you put it back together, and/or install the replacement sensor, make sure you go generous on the dielectric grease in the connector. That's the most exposed electrical connection on the car.

could this have anything to do with why my heater doesnt work? the heater wasnt working before this, but could this issue be pointing fingers at some underlying problem for heater malfunction?
