Weird starts.
Starting the bonnie has been a toss of the dice the last two weeks. At first it seemed like the battery was going. Was at the grocery and when returning to the car I tried to start it and the starter turned over real slow like the battery was dying. So I popped the hood and wiggled the + wire at the battery. Started right up. So when I got home I thightend up the terminals (+ and -.) Then turned the key once......click .....twice.. click.... third.........slow turn over..... fourth.....start. So I took the battery to Advance Auto to have it tested(load). Battery tested good. So I brought it home...pulled the starter and took it to a local rebuilder for testing. Starter also good. O.k..... time to inspect cables, grounds, etc. Pulled back the boots and found the + cable going to fuse blockunder the cover near the dash was corroded and wet at the battery terminal. Ah hah.....that'* it!!!! It was so badly junked up that I clipped it and went and got an aftermarket clamp down type terminal. So sure this was the problem I put her all back together and turned the key.......once.....click..........twice....click.. ....third..........started right up. Turned it off and started it five more times without a problem. I'm totally convinced that this was not the problemthough. If it was then why two clicks and then start. If it was the problem it should have started right away.
I noticed on the factory volt guage it was low at start and after 5 sec. was normal(noticed the interior lamps get brighter as the gauge went up to normal) After reading previous posts. Jr3800 mentioned this was normal for our cars. I will note although that it did that all 5 consecutive starts after fixing + cable terminal.
I didn't notice any fluctuations in the volt gauge under normal driving conditions with various accessories on.
I will also mention that headlights did not dim when it would click and then not turn over, making me seriously doubt it'* the starter. I heard that starter whine (meaning pinion spinning freely) each time they put it under load at the rebuilder.
What'* next?

Being that it'* intermittent, it'* a tougher diagnosis. If this were me, I'd pack a hammer and old towel/blanket in the car. That way if the starter doesn't want to fire again..all you need is a helper to hold the key while you hit the starter. If it fires up ..then it'* the soleniod starting to stick. aka bad starter.
