My trunk latch motor stopped working
 

Hi, today I went to my car to grab some tools from out of the trunk and I opened it to find that the inside of the trunk was flooded! I noticed that the seal/rubber lip of the trunk was worn and had let rain water in. After cleaning out all the water out of the relecting pool in my trunk the motor that brings my trunk down stopped working. The trunk still latches closed, but the motor brings the trunk lid down the rest of the way to completely close it. I was wondering if I have to replace the entire trunk motor or is there a fuse that might have shorted because of the flood in my trunk?

actually, i have seen alot of trunks do that. That is REALLY bad cause its not making a seal. Anyways, I tried to fix one of my friend's DeVille's ones and it turned out it was the motor indeed....as far as i remember the motors are not that easy to find, but i don't think they cost too much.

The motor is stuck in the up position. There's a way to trick it back into sequence, but I don't recall the method.

Ring a bell anyone?

don't you need to put a screw driver or something in the locked cam and unlock it while giving it a little help as the trunk hinge springs would do?

I will give the screw driver trick a shot. Also how can I go about replacing or fixing the trunk seal so no more water gets in again. The seal is still there but there are large sections of it that are no longer attached to the trunk lip. Can I sue some kind of glue or even gaskett maker to glue it back together?

Probably easier to hit up a junkyard and pull a good one off of a car.

An update! Well Oldsman and I were tring the screwdriver trick when that didn't work we tried a hammer. Well it wasn't working either, but then we employed the Russian Repair Technique (hitting the metal part of the latch with the hammer) and it worked! So now it is working as good as new! Thanks

Mine won't close. There was some water in there, but the trunk pop works.

It will not close! The latch moves fine, but it will no stay closed no matter what... are you guys saying a screwdriver will help or is it possible that it is another water based electronic problem? I've isolated the wire for the trunk pop... it makes a sound, but it will not stay latched.

When I pop it, should the latch move?

On those I normally remove the motor from it, turn the gear until it's set to the right height and put the motor back in it. Makes it work like a regular trunk.
