Default Fuel Gauge Stays at Full... HELP !

Just got my '92 Bonne SE last week & my Fuel gauge stays at Full, well a little beyond full, like where it should sit pass empty when car is off.
We checked all the Fues & connections, now we think it the guage all together.

Anyone had this problem before or know where to get the new gauge?
Thanks

92s have an operating range of 0 ohms empty to 90 ohms full. If the fuel level signal wire were disconnected or broken, that would be infinate resistance and would display a very, very full tank of gas on the gauge all of the time. Before spending over $100 for a sending unit, check that wire. It should be a purple wire. Use a multimeter and measure before and after the tank connector and at the cluster connector for best results. I expect you'll find a break in that circuit.

My 93 does this occasionally (every 10th fill or so). I turn off the ignition and back on to fix it sometimes, but most times, the needle comes back to normal within a couple minutes or bumps.

Yours sounds more terminal. I think mine is actually sticking sometimes at the high level. Do what'* suggested above. It sounds very likely.

Bill next time it messes up on you. Try this. pop it into neutral for a moment and see if it adjusts down to the prope level.

Thanks Guys for the ideas. I'll have my man check out the wire before we get the new sending unit. Hate to spend $100+ if I don't have to. Could use a new Sterio

Any other ideas welcome...I'll let you know what we find out

I think Damenorder recently posted about a ground in the base of the rear seat that can cause bad sender results.
