Default I HOPE SOMEONE CAN FIGURE THIS OUT

I made my taillights all red this weekend, for those that don't know. I carefully took the bulbs out of the housing when I did them so I wouldn't break them. I put the bulbs back together the way they should. This morning I installed the taillights, snapped the clips together, and now I get on my DIC, the LAMP MONITOR and it says:

LAMP MONITOR

turn signal
tails
brake lamp

All the bulbs are working. Nothing is blown. The harnesses are attached, the bulbs are where they should be. I can't figure out WTF the problem is.

This is exactly what is happening:

-My left turn signals work perfectly
-My right turn signals blink VERY slowly, AND the 194 rear side marker in the taillight assembly (not the trunk light) blinks with the right turn signals. I KNOW it'* not supposed to blink. They never did before.
- The regular tails all work, but when I hit the brake pedal, the right side brake lights do not work (they don't get brighter like they're supposed to). The left brake lights are fine.
- Every time I hit the brake pedal, the 'tails' warning comes on in the DIC (along with the annoying dinging noise every time). When I release the brake pedal, the 'tails' warning goes away.
- The turn signal and brake lamp warnings are now on ALL the time.

None of this happened before.

Can anyone help me out? This is so frustrating. I even bought new taillight bulbs, 2057, to see if that would solve the brake light problem, but it didn't. And I have NO idea why that 194 blinks with the turn signal. The problems seem to be only on the right side lights.

Thanks guys!!!

That happens to me too. I don't understand. Everything is lighting up, but the computer says otherwise.

As for the 194 I don't understand what would make that blink if it'* not supposed to.
I'd say swap out the brake light, but you've already done that so I won't tell you to do it again.
Check over the harness very closely to verify that it isn't piched somewhere so that something cuts through the insulation and shorts/crosses two or more of the wires.

Good luck.
BTW, I just had to replace my right rear 194 yesterday due to a blown bulb. All of $.50.

Just as a guess, it sounds like there is a ground fault in one of those lighting ckts. Not easy to diagnose over the internet. You could start by maybe attempting to isolate it down to a specific ckt. Try pulling that 194 lamp back there and leave it out, see if the condition changes with regard to the turn signasl & the DIC & that. Look the sockets over real good for corrosion or any other unusual characteristics. Remove some of the other bulbs that were affected when you did the mod. You may have disturbed something back there, or you may have uncovered some prob that'* been lurking waiting to break out. Good luck, hope this helped a little anyway. Maybe one of the guys with schematics for the 94'* will chime in soon.

Just curious, could cold weather affect it at all?

One of my small rear bulbs in the corner brake lights wasn't on for a while, i ALMOST bought it at walmart last week but didn't, and i noticed it was on tonight...

Luckily for me i just saved $.50 i can blow on guiness in less then a month!!!

I dunno if mine was from tinting the tails and i didn't put it all together right, but i don't wanna pull that carpet back in this weather and check.

I would guess that you have switched harnesses around... And then put the correct bulb in the position, but the wrong harness!

The other way this can happen is if you put a bulb in backwards, the dual filament bulbs can only go in one way, sometimes people force them in 180 degrees the wrong way.

I'm betting on the first one, though. Try and carefully compare the colors and wiring on the harnesses on one side to the harnesses on the other. Let me know if you need the color codes...

I'm going to check again soon. I never took the actual bulbs out of their sockets, just the whole harness with the bulbs installed. I don't know if it'* just a wire crunched up. I know they are naturally curled up when installed, but I can't think of anything else. Maybe I should disconnect the battery...?

Anyway, I'll try to make it work, and I'll be back with the results.

Well I went to start my car this morning, after I had re-installed the bulbs on the right side. I pushed the wires in that go to the bottom of each bulb, just to make sure the bulbs were completely touching the metal in the socket. I figured they were before because they all were on, but I didn't know what else to do.

Get in my car, and I see all 3 warnings are up again I begin to drive to where I was going and I knew I could get rid of some of the warnings. So I used my left directionals, which turned that warning off. I turned on my lights so the 'tails' warning would go away.

So now I only had the brake lamp warning. And for several stop lights it didn't go away, but for some reason the tails warning didn't go off this time when I hit the brakes. Then a few minutes later, the DIC flickered a bit, which I thought was ANOTHER problem (what causes that anyway), and after it stopped flickering and came back up, the Lamp Monitor was gone! All the warnings were gone, and when I drove home later today they never came back.

I don't know what exactly the problem was, but the right brake lamps and the right directionals are working again. The harnesses were all right the whole time too. I'm just glad the warnings are gone!

Thanks everyone for your help! Now onto the next problem...

The problem was a bad ground in the taillamp assembly on that side. Current going through the turn signal was making it as far as the common ground connection point where the turn signal and taillamps are both supposed to be grounded. Since the connection to the body was broken there, current doubled back through the taillamp circuit to find a ground elsewhere. This ended up running your turn signal and taillamps simultaneously, in series, at half brightness.

You've got a flaky ground connection at one or both of your taillights which is currently working, but may eventually go away on you again. When it does, get back to us and we'll find it.
