Default Climate control stuck on Floor/Defrost

The 1995 SSEi I'm getting in a couple days has the electronic climate control. I notced the other day on the test drive that the mode is stuck on Floor/Defrost. Is this a common problem, is there a way to test the control unit to give me a fault code, or is this a problem never seen before?

The system seems to work fine otherwise, meaning the fan speeds and heating/cooling are functioning correctly.

Thanks in advance.

Gary

What do the arrows say on the display? Do they point to the panel vents?

Yes, I beleive they point to the mode that you select, but it doesnt' blow out anything else except floor and defrost vents.

I only got a few minutes with the car the other day on the test drive. I felt I'd be okay as long as I had air coming out, and I'd handle this problem down the road after I pick it up in the next couple days. But are we on to something? I'll get a full description of it'* functions or malfunctions when i pick the car up on Wed. But I do remember the display'* arrows pointing to the vents.

Does this help?

Theres an air mix chamber door that sometimes gets stuck or the linkage comes loose. As long as the arrows are pointing the selected mode we can walk you through a repair.
Good luck with the purchase and see you back soon.

My bet is on a vacuum leak. Because defroster/floor is the default position with no vacuum.

Yes, you have the classic sign of a vacuum leak. Check for a hissing sound at the firewall or in-between the throttle body and the firewall.

Default is it a vacuum leak?

if it doesn't end up being a vacuum leak....there'* a small plastic gear i guess you would call it, that moves the door, i've seen it break on 2 of my cars now. replace that and you're good to go!
