Keyless entry remote bad?
We recently purchased a 99 Park Avenue. It came with two remotes, neither work. Both are labeled "2". I tried programming them by jumping the 4th and 8th pin as I found online, the procedure seems to be correct(the doors lock and unlock when you turn on the ignition) but the remotes do not do anything. The numbers on the back are :2566575 and kobut1bt, I am not sure if this is correct. I found wildly varying numbers and application lists on Ebay and elsewhere. Some sites say they should be 25678792, but I'm not sure if this is for the 1st or 2nd remote, some application lists for the 25678792 don't list a Park aveunue.
Any info would be appreciated. thanks |
Do you know if the transmitters are working? Does anything happen when you hit the red panic button on the remote?
One way I used to check RF remotes was to place it real close to a portable AM radio, press the button, and see if it created any noise as it overwhelmed the circuitry in the radio. It's more of a test that it is working, not that it is working properly. Whether it will work in this case, I don't know. Sorry - I don't have any information on the part numbers for the remotes. |
I picked up another remote on Ebay, this was a 2566574 #1 remote. It is supposed to be correct one. Nothing happens when I hold the lock and unlock buttons. I tried new batteries in all the remotes.
Is there any way to verify if the receiver is working? Where is it located? thanks, |
Is that after entering the programming mode that you get no reaction by pressing lock and unlock? With the information that I have, I couldn't find anything on how to test the receiver. I found this removal procedure.
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement Removal Procedure Open the rear compartment lid. Disconnect the lower electrical connector. Remove the 2 push-in retainers that secure the RFA module to the bottom of the package shelf. Installation Procedure Install the retainers for the RFA module onto the package shelf. Connect the electrical connector. Close the rear compartment lid. If replacing the RFA module program the RPO options. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Reprogramming . Checking into the last step of "Remote Control Door Lock Reprogramming" showed that it had to be done with a scan tool. |
Thanks, I'll look at it tonight. What do you mean about the last step requiring a scan tool?

The GM servicing information shows a procedure to program the remotes on his car without the scan tool. However, if the remote receiver is replaced, (RFA module) that receiver has to be programmed with a scan tool.

Actually, Pat - the fault is mine for not posting that information in this thread. The discussion started in the gearhead section. So, for anyone wandering into this thread - the is the transmitter programming procedure for the '99 Park Avenue.
Transmitter Programming Important Before entering the programming mode, verify possession of all the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, the memory erases. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again. You may program up to 4 transmitters. Perform the following procedure or use a scan tool when adding new transmitters or replacing failed transmitters. 1. Programming ProcedureTurn OFF the ignition switch. 2. Use a fused jumper wire in order to connect the Data Line Connector terminal 8 (BLK/WHT) to terminal 4 (BLK). (Top row 1 through 8; Bottom 9 through 16) 3. Close all of the doors. 4. Turn ON the ignition switch. 5. The door will cycle to lock. Press and hold the following buttons on one of the transmitters for 30 second: * LOCK * UNLOCK 6. After a 30 second delay, the doors will lock and unlock. Important Do not turn off the ignition. If the switch is turned off, the first transmitter becomes inoperative. 7. In order to program extra transmitters, repeat Step 5. 8. Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the DLC. |
