Default cars voltmeter

1995 Bonny SE

Last night I noticed my volts in between the red and the 14.
Took the car this morning to two different Advance Auto parts and they both told me that the alternator and battery are good. When the second guy was testing the alternator I noticed the volts going down to the red area. It was fluctating. Car was running good.
I checked for corrosion in the battery terminals and it was good.

Can the voltage regulator inside the alternator be bad?
Also, my headlight switch is starting to act up. Can this be the cause..

HELP!!!

You need to also check your wire terminals at the starter and engine block for corrosion. Pull them off, scrub em and re-attach.

This could lead into a long thread. Please start another thread in Electrical section pertaining to your headlight switch.

Do you have your own meter that you can use to check to see what the voltage is doing at the battery terminals?

Well, the 95 headlight switches are known to go bad and melt. Pull it out and check it out. The volt meter on the dash could just be going wacky if everything checks out ok.

Sorry to get off track here, but where does the volt meter gets its reading from? Straight from the battery or from the PCM?

That signal may come from the PCM to the Instrument Panel Cluster, not sure. So if the voltage readings taken directly at the battery terminals are stable, then it could very well be a problem related to the PCM. Need a 92-95 GH with schematic.
