Default I have come to a conclusion, my electrical system sucks

Now the frekin door locks and alarm system is screwy. The power locks do not work except at certin times and all they do is lock automaticllay I have no chaice in this opperation, with this the alarm keeps trying to arm every time I open than shut my door w/the car shut off so the next time I open the door the stupid thing starts to honk at me so every time I have to open the door I need to press the unlock button on the key fob which will disarme it untill I open than close the door again. If im not quick enough to start the car the alarm yill than go off on me. to make it simple it likes to honk at me. just to ad to this some times when I press the switch for the moon roof, or door locks they instead act like a horn button and w/ the moon roof switch it will void to designated function and sound the horn. What in the world is w/ my stupid car?

I'm definitely no expert, but I have a '93 SSE as well and I too have all sorts of flaky electrical issues. I've heard from other folks (not from this forum, however) that this is common with '93'*. I have the classical flaky dashboard information center display where sometimes I can't read the odometer (fixable using the cluster removal procedure in one of the Techinfo articles), my rear shock leveler air pump motor quit, my driver side rear power window motor is intermittent, the auto adjust on the rearview mirror doesn't work, the passenger front door sensor occassionaly indicates the door ajar when not, the driver side door speaker tweater (factory installed) cuts in and out, occassionally the delay timer for the interior lights refuses to turn off the lights when the ignition is turned.

So, don't feel too bad. For most of these, it hasn't been bad enough to prod me into action because the issues seem to fix themselves, sometimes staying fixed for months. And none of them are life-or death to me. If I'm really bored someday, I might change my mind.

It'* a little difficult to fully understand your problems in your post so we're gonna have to chip away at them.

The factory alarm will only arm by pressing the Lock button on the remote with the doors closed or by pressing the Lock switch on the door with the door open. Since you are unable to operate the power locks with the door switch and it arms by just opening then closing the door, I would say that the problem is the RAC module is receiving a constant Lock signal or the RAC module itself is bad. You should obtain a multimeter for testing.

I also have what might seem like a wierd question. Does the charge in your battery drain overnight or after a short period of time?

I do not have my manuel with me to look at but you could see if there is a fuse for the alarm or locks to see if cutting the power to one of them fixes any of the problems if so part of that system could be grounded or shorted by a lose wire ect that causes it to set off the alarm or try to send the signal to lock the doors

randman1-for your question about the battery draining over night my car dose it was really noticable w/ my old battery b/c the engine would barily turn over now that I replaced the battery I notice that it looses a little juice over the night by the gauge, why do you ask?

kicksock- my dash has the same problem w/ the driver info center going blank but instead fo the door showing as if its adjar my display instead shows me that my tail lamp is out but it is not I checked out all of the bulbs

Phantom- I have found the fusefor the door locks but it aldo disables the power antenna I have not found a fuse for the alarm though

The reason for asking about a drain is to determine if something is using power when it should not.

On the lamp monitor..check your license plate bulbs. They are also on that tail monitor.

For the locking and alarm issues, Have you checked to see if under your driverside carpet gets wet when it rains? Also check the grounds that are right there as well as one I believe is located on the side of the dash for the cluster.

Right. My thinking is that the door lock actuators are always "working" as if someone always had their finger on the door switch. This could be one reason why the locks don't seem to work cause they're already doing something.

kicksock has a good idea of simply checking the fuse. In this case though, it'* a circuit breaker (#4). If my theory is correct, the circuit breaker will feel hot from current constantly flowing through. If you pull the CB, you might hear the lock actuators "relax". Plugging it back in, they should lock.

This is very easy to test without any tools (unless you consider beer to be a tool like I do). Give this a quick try to see if the locks behave as I described. If not, you should obtain a test light and a multimeter for further testing

I would try pulling the beraker if I had my car right now its in the shp b/c the a/c compressor bearing went out and.

BillBoost37- 1 I did not ever check the lisence plate lights ill do that when I get my car back thank you for that tip
2 I actually did notice that the driverside carpet was soaken wet last time it rained (it rains like a b/+ch here in willmar when it rains) now this creates another question from me, where is the water gettin in at?

Door seals, sunroof drains and wiper trough are the most popular areas for water leaks.
