HUD motor problem??

On my 02 I noticed if you adjust the HUD up as far as it can go and not let go of the switch it makes a noise like it's grinding gears. It doesn't do it in the full down position. Is this normal?

My 95 doesn't do this.

the HUD motor in the 02 is much different than the 95 HUD that is cable driven. Personally i have adjusted the HUD and never moved is since....

Should I not worry about it? I have two drivers and I just want to make sure there isn't a bad gear or something that is a problem.

you are slowly stripping the gear if you keep doing it.
the reason why its not doing it on the down side is it must be a little closer "as in the gears are closer" so it stops the motor before the gears slip.

So when your holding down it is burning the motor our not slipping th gears.

Alot of things do this, IE. power mirrors.

i dont know if this is normal. but i know how most of those thing work, and most of them work in the same way.

its not going to hurt it unless you keep holding it down. Just like if you keep holding you window up or down. your going to Burn the motor out ;)

Bandit.. what gears are you talking about? Have you seen the inside of a HUD and the adjusting motor assembly?

I have.. for the 96-99 and it's not as you'd think it would be. ;)

Either way..it appears that there is an issue with the HUD. You may want to check junkyards for a replacement.

the 00+ sound like there different. they have a motor ;)

so i bet they use a worm gear setup

I have a warranty on the car. Just thought I'd ask here before I ask the dealer about it. It seems I have found a few other issues too. Maybe I'm just picky

Thanks

If put almost anything to its limits its ging to do something funny.

and putting a little motor like whats in the HUD and holding ON will make it do wired things.

Heres the real question, if you adjust it normally and do not hold it and just put it at its max, does it grind on its way there or just when ti stops and o Keep Holding it?

What you are not taking into account Ryan is things called end of stroke switches that tell the motor.."stop"

These are built into the system
