I need to start off by saying i have been searching for about 2 weeks before I decided topost. I just got my 93SSEi and really love it. The gauges were not working when I bought it and it was stuck on 3/4 of gas. Long story short I just have fuel pump put in last week since I dicoverd the gauges didn't work. It is going to take a little work to get this back together but I thing I am up to it. I have the gauge problem. I got up this morning to pull the gauges but decided to check the fuses first.

I pulled all of them since I don't have a book(getting one today) and when I started the car, all the gauges were working. I drove the car about 4 mile and all gauges stopped along with the DIC and compass(tach and speedo still work).

I am trying to find out which fuse controls all the gauges. I did notice that one of the fuse I pulled had a really loose fitting in the fuse box(12 I think). I am going to do it again and see what I can find out.

Try stomping on the floor where this ground bus is located. Some have corroded on older cars and need cleaning, pasting, and reinstalling. There'* one on both sides of car. Is there anything else that works erratically. On my 93 my heater control would lose control and go to default with AC defroster engaged (manual system) and power door locks would quite at same time.

Did that already. I am having intermittent problems with the door lock as well. They started working 2 days ago and after checking all the fuses The gauges worked and the locks stopped.

Did you actually remove and clean both ground buss plugs? If not, make sure you completly clean the buss of any corrosion and reassemble.

Also, you might as well pull the battery cables off the battery, remove the boot and clean those up as well, along with removing the ground off the block and clean that up also.


Grounds can do some funny things

I did remove and clean both sides. There is no corrosion on the battery. I just had it charged. Where is the ground block?

I was actually talking about where the engine block is grounded

you can follow the main ground cable from the battery to just underneath the coil / ICM bracket. remove the cable there and make sure it has a good clean tight connection. There is also a smaller wire that goes to the passenger side inner fender just behind the battery. It is on a small stud with about 4 or 5 other wires going to the same spot. Take the wires off there and clean it up also.

While I can't say for sure this will fix your problem, it for sure wouldn't hurt, and will probably prevent some headaches in the future

Not to Hijack this thread but...

I've had the same problem as yours for a while. I had to replace the Whole Gauge cluster and now they work.

So if the grounds are all good you'll most likely need a new cluster...

I have to agree with xDRx on this one. I just replaced my cluster on my 93 and they are awesome now. I went to the local dealer to get mine and though they weren't cheap ($275 remanufactured) but they look brand new as far as the glass, face, and needles go. I am very happy with them.

I only paid $700 for the car so a $275 investment in a gauge cluster is out of the question. I am going to follow the removal and cleaning tut.

I never got a question to which fuse if for the gauges or a listing of all the fuses. I have not been able to get to the store to buy the book as of yet.

You don't need to spend $275 for a replacement cluster. Put a post in the wanted thread for a 92-93 SSEi gauge cluster.Trust me ALOT lower then that (except its not remanufactured)
