Default Homelink system dead I think

I have been trying to program the Homelink without success for a while. I just kept putting it off when it wouldn't work. (used car) I decided to finally pull apart the map light overhead console and really see what'* happening. The Homelink system doesn't illuminate it'* little light - at all - ever. So after getting the map light assembly apart I checked the wiring and there is 12 volts going to the homelink module. Is there another way to test these things? Is it more complicated than just power? Should I just head to the dealer or try to get one at a junk yard to see if it will work?

the light 'should' illuminate....the homelink only needs power and ground to operate

keep in mind its possible that not all garage doors openers will work with the Homey....i know we have one door that is not compatable, and out of the other 2 one will not work with either (mercedes and chevy) homelinks.....

the home link module should be the same, the dealer is gonna cost you lots, if you want one i can check the junkyards

My Tahoe Homelink works our door fine. This one just seems dead. It'* odd. The car is still under warranty, so I may be able to get one from the dealer, but my overhead console is screwed up (long story) so I don't want the dealer taking it apart. I wonder if they will just swap it out at the parts counter. I doubt it, but the date is stamped on it 08/04.
