Help!!1989SSE Seat Adjust Buttons won't work.
Hi!!..I'm new to the club. I just bought a 89SSE and I LOVE it..however I KNOW NOTHING.
It's in pretty good shape now, but I want to really fix it up nice. I'm starting on the interior and working my way to the exterior (new paint job). So far I've had everything under the hood checked out by my trusted mechanic(she got an A), had new ceiling fabric put in, carpet redone and leather seats cleaned! Now I want everything electronic TO WORK!! How is the best way to go about this? Also where is the best places to look for replacement parts? I know I'm probably not using the right lingo, but I'll catch up to all you oldtimers cause I plan on being around for awhile to learn. Would appreciate any and all help to a newcomer!! My "Sweetie" is Gold w/gold leather interior. :?: |
Few things I would check....
You have your carpet redone.... did they forget to reconnect your electronic seats? Check the fuse(s) for the seats.... Take the button custer out, and check to make sure the contacts are erroded. |

well on the 89-91 bonneville SSE's the seat controls are on the console... not the seats

I know, no biggie but if they sell new buttons, they must be pretty cheap. |

I think he was referring to the buttons themselves.....which aren't individually replaceable. You don't want to know the price of the whole module. It would keep you from sleeping for a week.

I ended up paying several bucks apiece for what turned out to be simple nylon X-shaped pieces with a large barb in the middle that clipped through the evaporator. Each one came in its own special little cardboard box. I felt like I was at the Pentagon buying $600 toilet seats. Oh, well, there was no easy way to get junkyard clips unless I pulled an entire evaporator out of the junkyard donor, so I was kind of stuck having to buy those, but whenever you're looking for a part and a junkyard donor might have a good replacement, you should always consider that. In hindsight I could have done the job with some thin-gauge nylon cable straps, but you can't return special-order parts, so I just ate the cost and got through the project. |
But them are nice toilet seats!!! They vibrate, heat up, wipe for you...
:offtopic: |
good luck finding new seat controls....most of them are broken or cracked, but I found one on ebay $35USD, mint condition. but I had been looking for months, so just keep your eye open and I'm sure you'll find some.
