i probly shudve asked this b4 i removed them... but anyway, does anyone know what the function of those little metal things over the low beam bulbs are? are they part of the reflection system or are they just there to not blind people? after much inspection i came to the conclusion that they were there to not blind people and i am always looking for more and brighter forward lights, so i took them off, if it is indeed ok to take them off and anyone else wants to know how i got them out, here goes:

i removed the whole fixture, just take out all the bulbs and theres ntohing holding it to the car, obviously the light fixture doesnt open and none of the holes are big enough for them to come out, i took a dremel, cut the little legs holding it, now i worked it over to the hole for the turn signal, took some needle nose pliers, the thing is 2 pieces, a cylinder and a cap, the cyclinder isnt solid it'* just glued or something, i took the plier and bent the cylinder to seperate the 2 ends, at this point the cap will fall off, then i bent it in onitself to make sort of a coil, it is now small enough to remove, then i worked the cap back over to the turn signal hole, lined it up with the widest notch on it, took the pliers again and just puleld it thru, it is thin enough metal so it bends

That was a bad idea. Go buy new headlights and research your ideas before performing them next time.

The caps inside the fixture? that the tip of the bulb goes into? I think they are there to direct the light to the reflective materials to make your beams flood the road?? I could be wrong?

You're dead right. The way NERV has "modded" his light the beam is projected farther but not as much to the sides. Now he'll never see that little girl running out in the road to catch her kitten.

At least he can see the kitten and slow down to avoid the kitten and have enough time to react when the lil girl comes out?

dont worry, there will be no children under my tires, now that its dark i was able to take them out for a test drive and my overall lighting is improved, i extremely doubt that the caps were made for reflection, if you look, the cylinder part isnt particularly reflective, and the inside of the cap doesnt appear to be specifically designed for reflection, since it'* coating on the inside is somewhat uneven

so i dont know where you heard that they are to light to the sides but think about it, with the cap gone, the inner reflector projects out to the sides along with the light directly form the bulb going in all directions

Now that I think about it too, wait untill it get'* foggy and/or snowy if you leave in that type of climate and you'll regret doing that. Having the light going out of the capsule that strong will illuminate more fog or snow flakes than the ground, making bad visibility worse. I believe that is correct, but I could be wrong. The metal inserts were made to combat that issue too I believe.

that wont be a problem, my headlights have a 'dimmed' mode and ill be installing the new foglights tommorow
