Default altinator question

hey everyone

altinators. even if thats spelled right, its that thingy that generates power in the car. im still new.

okay so can someone give me the 411 on how they are supposed to operate. Heres the deal, ive noticed it kicks down to 12V or 11V sometimes when in idle, then when i touch the gas it kicks back to 15 V. you can see it downkick from 15 to 11 or 12V, literally the needle jumps down.

im guessig there are several power modes that the car needs How do you tell when theyre going bad? it is the original altinator. this one is on my 2001.

Its August, id hate to be left in the heat cause my electrical system failed. that would just put the icing on the cake

What electrical devices do you have running when you see the low voltage? Headlights, fan, radio, ect?

A lot of auto part stores will check the alternator for free. Have them check your battery too.

Even a new battery can be defective. Let them check it while your there.
