dimming the ECC after stereo up-grade?

Is there any way to get my dimming capabilities back for my electronic climate controls back after a aftermarket stereo was installed? It's the only thing that won't dim....Or is there something else that I'm missing for why it won't dim?

It is the same as my Cutlass Supreme when I had it. That dimming control was controlled by the radio, you want it to dim, hook the OEM radio back up.

I got the car with the aftermarket radio in it. If I had the old radio I would not be asking about an alternative.

I'm not certain about this, but i think that later models had ECCs that didn't need the radio to dimm. BillBoost has one of these units (programmer and head unit) for sale.

on the 92 and 93 the Dimming of the ecc WAS contorlled in the factory HU...there is no way to dim the unit.....you could upgrade to the 94+ ECC headunit and the programmer, to solve the problem

Since installing the programmer is a pain, you'll want a 94 ECC unit. It uses the same Programmer as the 93, but has dimming capabilities. You'll just have to add one wire from the connector to the radio dimming line to get it to work. The 95+ you'll need to get the whole programmer and ECC head to do it, but requires the dash to be moved some to get to one of the bolts for the programmer.

There is a tech info on putting a 94+ radio in a 92-93 that you'll want to look at to get the proper wire to connect.

Well here is another question then my radio has a dimmer...That is to say it dims when you turn on the headlights.... can I use that some how?

i dont believe so

Actually the dimmer that is on the aftermarket radios should be able to be wired up to a dash light wire so that it WILL dim.

Here is a quote I found online about another deck

includes an orange wire that should be tapped into the dash light wiring. This tells the head unit when the dash lights are on so that it can dim the display and not blind you at night
I would look online for the installation guide for that deck, that is your best bet.
