dash lights and tail lights just went out
My son's girlfriend has a 95 Bonneville. Her dash lights and taillights both went out today. I checked the fuses under the dash (left side) and under the hood. I can't find any bad fuses. Do I need to check the fuses under the dash on the right? I am beginning to wonder if it's the light switch after reading several of the posts.
Also, I can't seem to be sure which fuse should be for the dash and the taillights. Her brake lights , backup lights, and turning signals work . . . just not the taillights. Also, her chime goes off when the door is open, even with no keys in the ignition and no headlights turned on. Please help me be a hero. Thanks. |
yup, sound like no power to the headlight switch (fuse or bad switch). check here first though

Welcome to the forum Tgunder 8)
Check that grounding bus and see if it's full of moisture / corrosion. If that seems all fine and dandy, check any fuse that could be a possibility - there should only be 3 at most. If that checks out fine, it'd be my guess that it's time for a new switch. |
The #1 failure on 95's with these symptoms is a melted connector on the headlamp switch. The switch itself causes this. You want to upgrade (don't recall exactly but I think it's a 96/97 switch) and splice in a newer harness. Pull the switch out and see if it's melting.

And after that...where was the problem????

Hey guys, I would love to know what the problem turned out to be. I have a 98 SE with the exact same problem. I was able to fix my lights by tapping into my after-market alarm and splicing in a rocker switch. my dash lights would only come on if I hit the unlock button on my remote, so I figured the problem was in the alarm wiring. I replaced the headlight switch, and that fixed nothing. replaced all my fuzes, that fixed nothing. chased all the wires and found no chaffed or shorted wires. I found my way around the lighting trouble but still have to deal with the chime even with no keys in the ignition.
