try applying your parking brake and then take it off again to see if that fixes the light

Check to see that you didn't inadvertently push the parking brake in while entering/exiting the vehicle and/or check brake fluid level.

umm, i think thats what you call..."a bad thing". Check the fluid level. Add DOT 3 fluid if neccisary. Also, if the fluid is excessively dark or does not look clean, you might want to think about bleeding your brakes...Check techinfo at the top of the page for instructions, or if you are moneybags, you can have a mechanic do it. If your fluid is low, check the master cylinder for any leaks around the fittings and such and if nothing can be found, make sure to check your calipers and drums for any sign of leakage, as this could be the reason you have to press hard, pressure loss. My wheel cylinders are leaking and I will be rebuilding them this week, my car has some if any rear brake action because the seals on my wheel cylinders are worn out. You can check these by removing the wheels and just pulling the drums off. They come off pretty easily on my car, hopefully you will have the same result.

Good luck!

EDIT: Oh, and, just a friendly reminder, make sure to add your year and model to your sig. And a pic would'nt hurt. If you can provide the pic, I am sure some photochopper here will fix yah up with a sig

Please go into your profile and in the signature area put the year and model of your car.

I'm sitting here not remembering what year/model you drive....

Thanks

I had a similar problem like yours (dinging and the brake light on...only when I was making a turn).

Try this: start up your car in the drive way. If your brake warning light is on and you hear the dinging, reach down and lift up your parking brake with your hand. If the light and dinging goes away, your parking brake needs to be adjusted or fixed so that it does not make contact with the sensor.

I'm cheap so I used a plastic tie wrap to snug up the parking brake to keep it from making contact with the sensor. Just wrap the plastic tie around the pedal and the bracket that it'* attached to...

Hope this helps...

The dinging and the brake light are a dead giveaway. Classic brake warning dinging. The usual end result is a master cylinder failure.

This is not to be ignored. There is the potential for a serious problem here. Do you see any fluid leaking from the master cylinder under the hood?
