Default Remote locks probs.

My 92 SSEi has a funny thing going on, sometimes (not all the times, about once a week) when I turn my car off, close the door, and hit the lock button on my key FOB, nothing happens. The funny thing is, I can start the car right away, let the gauges go though all there little dances (roughly 5-7 seconds), turn the car back off, and the freaking thing works. What do you suppose the problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My gut tells me it'* got nothing to do with you re-starting the car. Pure coincidence.

What I'd do is take the remote transmitter apart, replace the battery, and clean all the button contacts as well as batter contacts with alcohol and a qtip.

I'll try the taking apart and cleaning thing, but that is VERY coincidental that it works to restart the car and turn it off, because it has been reproducible roughly a half dozen times.

ok get this. My lock and trunk button donot work on my fobs, just the unlock. talk about weird, both fobs have been cleaned and new batteries

could just be the rattling of the keys, and the distance to the car when you try the second time. try doing the same exact thing, without actually putting the key in the ignition <play pretend with the keys in the car right by the keyhole> and see what happened.

Don't laugh at this one. Hold the remote FIRMLY against the lower part of your jawbone, directly below your cheek. Then press the lock button.

It did it again this morning, I paid closer attention to what was going on this time. The trunk popper still worked when the door locks would not, BUT, I pressed and held the lock button (not firmly pressed against the side of my face {LMAO}) for about 3-4 seconds, and suddenly the lock solenoids worked, and then I could do whatever I wanted with my FOB, lock, unlock, or pop. maybe it does just need a good cleaning and some batts. I'll look into doing that this weekend and let you know.

I learned that trick from my bud Eric. He'* the guy that did my SC rebuild with me a couple years ago, and filmed that 100mph pass in the dark for me.

Helping me with my trans pretty soon, too.

Anyway, your body is a natural antenna. It'* a neat way of knowing when the range on your transmitter is failing.
