Check Gas Cap

My check gas cap keeps coming on. I replaced my gas cap with a cap from the dealer but the check gas cap keeps coming on. It's causing my service engine soon light to come on and I hate it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be. Please help.

Are you sure it's on all the way? Turn it until it clicks. Otherwise the gas cap door might not be getting closed securely. This was a problem on my mom's Transport.

That cap needs to be on tight for the tank to pressurize correctly. I'm not entirely sure how this works, but it's an emissions problem, not a mechanical thing. I'm wondering if one of the vacuum lines to the vapor recovery tank is disconnected?
